5 Free Games for a PC that Are Great

All of These Games Are Completely Advertisement-Free and Cost You Nothing

Nicholas Ward
During my time browsing for some free games that didn't include advertising or downloading some foreign toolbar that is probably loaded with spyware; I found these little gems which I truly enjoyed. This is my list of the 10 free games for a PC that are great. Every game on this list is free, fun, addictive, guaranteed spyware free, and play tested.

5 Free Games for a PC That Are Great : Alien Wars,

If you're into 1942 style shooter games and you love to use your mouse this game is a perfect match for you. Though it only has 10 levels, they are all very challenging levels. This is your typical top down shooter but the parallaxing background effects are amazing to say the least and each craft appears to have movie quality realism.

5 Free Games for a PC that Are Great: Tibet Quest,

Tibet Quest feels all too familiar to those of us who have played a mass of casual games, but this one adds a little bit of a twist. Much like Bejeweled the object is to move gems around till they match, but the catch is that you need to match the gems which are adjacent to your character in this game. By doing this you clear a path and allow her to continue on her quest. There are more obstacles to come, but I'll leave you to learn about that yourself.

5 Free Games for a PC that Are Great: Gem Ball,

This game may remind you of Arkanoid, but it's got a new twist with a 3D design and castle walls for blocks. The graphics are reasonable and gameplay is well, "casual". While this may not be the best in this line up, it's definitely a great score for the rock bottom price of zero dollars and not a cent.

5 Free Games for a PC that Are Great: Ahriman's Prophecy,

Ahrimans Prophecy is an RPG with that classic console feel and the prequel to the more well-known Aveyond series. The graphical quality is comparable to an SNES title with some nice upbeat effects and the gameplay is somewhere between Zelda and Final Fantasy What is particularly special about this game is the background effects that change as the environment changes. A bustling town will have the effects of a dozen or more people talking and when crossing a rushing river you will hear the river beneath you. It's likely this game has been released as freeware in order to garner public interest in the Aveyond series.

5 Free Games for a PC that Are Great: Track Mania,

This is one of the best free racing games I've ever played. The graphics are great and the gameplay is short but sweet. Each track is only approximately 20-30 seconds long, but they are all very fun. These short tracks are ideal for those perfectionists out there (You know who you are) that just have to reset the level every time they make a small mistake. This racing game has both online and offline play modes available so you can play alone or with a friend.

5 Free Games for a PC that Are Great: Closing,

Every one of these games is completely free and each one is very fun in its own way. These games do not come with any spyware, viruses, malware, or toolbars, but some may ask to change your homepage during install. It's very rare to find good games that are free and many of them can't cover web site maintenance costs so there is no way of knowing how long they will be available. I suggest you try every one of these games while they still have hosting.

  • Internet hosting isn't cheap and most free games don't stay up long.
  • Many free games available are really just rip-offs of originals like Sonic or Mario.
  • Every one of these games is completely original.
Developing a game is hard, but marketing it can be even harder. Without the proper audience at the proper time many games fail. This is one of the reasons many companies release freeware as it gives them free exposure for newer more interesting titles.
