5 Free Services for the Elderly
1) Transportation services. Different companies handle transpiration for the elderly. Some cities have bus companies that handle the service, while other contract with private services. most communities have a Council on Again. Most Councils on Aging offer free van service to the elderly. The local one in North Florida offer free service to all seniors or handicapped persons.
2) Free meals. There are different agencies that often handle free food. The Council on Again in North Florida received the grant for Meals on Wheels, which provides a noontime meal to any senior who asks for one. Also, some communities offer the service through a local Community Action Agency. Check in your community to see if anyone offers free meals to the elderly.
3) Legal Service. Most cities and communities offer free legal service to needy individuals, including the elderly. Other states, such as Maine, offer free legal service to any elderly person, regardless of income. Maine's program is called Legal Services for the Elderly. Their age limit for legal services is 60 or over.
4) Prescriptions. Some prescription discount program are handled through Medicare as part of part D. Other programs are ran by local pharmacies. Pro Care drugs in Macclenny Florida offer certain free antibiotics to all individuals, including the elderly. Some pharmacy companies have programs in place to assist with assistance. The Council on Aging and Community Action Agency in North Florida also offer assistance with prescription coverage.
5) Some colleges offer free tuition for the elderly. With proof of age, some colleges and universities waive tuition. others colleges. There are sometimes limits on which classes, and how many can be taken. often times, paying students get first preference in classes, and seniors will be slotted for the class as openings are available.
It is nice to know that there are free or nearly free services for the elderly. Remember to check in your community see what programs or services are available there.
