5 Frugal Fall Home Decor Ideas

M. Zuniga
As the weather turns crisp and the leaves begin their autumn showcase of colors, you may find yourself in the mood to transform your home to reflect this change of the seasons. Decorating your home's interior and exterior doesn't have to be costly. Below are five frugal ideas to bring out the beauty of the season in and around your home.

1- Display a decorative door wreath. You can spend as little or as much as you like on a wreath and you also may be creative enough to make your own. Look for designs that feature seasonal colors and greenery. Purchase ribbon in fall colors such as deep reds, burnt oranges, and browns. This wreath was purchased on eBay for less than twelve dollars but can be easily made with artificial pumpkins, gourds, and berries. Display the wreath on your front door as a welcome surprise to visitors and passersby or hang it inside your home for even more enjoyment.

2- Go scavenging in your yard for colorful leaves and nuts like acorns and pecans. Make a fun family activity of it and see who can find the most unique and colorful leaves. Find a clear glass bowl or other decorative container to display them in. This makes a wonderful centerpiece for the kitchen or coffee table and gives off a crisp, fresh scent as an added bonus. You can also lightly spritz the arrangement with a fall scented room spray to add more scent. Since the leaves are disposable, this will be one less item you have to store year round.

3- Rake up fallen pine needles in you yard and use them for mulch in your flower beds. This instantly gives your landscaped areas a seasonal look and smell. It's also a great way to save money by not having to purchase mulch throughout the season to maintain your beds.

4- Burn candles in your home. Look for spicy scents such as cinnamon and pumpkin or lighter scents such as apple or pomegranate to give your home a wonderful autumn smell. You can also purchase scented candle tarts and melt them in a tart warmer. Combine a couple of the scents to get a truly unique smell.

5- Don't discard those outdoor jack-o-lanterns. If Halloween has already passed, simply turn the pumpkin around so the carved face doesn't show. This may buy your pumpkin an extra week or two to still be showcased.
