5 Fun Places for High School Summer Travel

Debi Rideout
Whether you are traveling with your family, or you are going on a school trip there are some amazing fun places to go for high school summer travel. The reason why I know that is because I used to travel all over the country and world with my family when I was in high school. I loved being a teenager and being able to spend my summers traveling. Here are my five fun places to go and see for high school summer travel:

1. New York City, New York

Yes, I know that New York City is very hot in the summer. However, there are so many fun things to do in New York City. Being in New York City is being in the land of culture. It is so important for a high school student to spend their summers traveling in areas where they can get both culture and history. New York has both. My favorite places to go in New York City as a teenager was the Statue of Liberty (www.nps.gov/stli/), South Street Seaport, Broadway for Broadway shows, shops, all the cool different exotic restaurants, Central Park, Time Square, Rockefeller Center, Museum of Modern Art, American Museum of Natural History, Empire State Building, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Macy's, and going to Chinatown. Being in New York City felt like another world to me, and I have always been in awe of it. I think it would be very hard to find a high school teenager that would not enjoy a summer vacation in New York City.

2. Orlando, Florida

Florida is the fun sun state. I know hands down that every high school student that I have ever met has wanted to go to Orlando, Florida for all the amusements that you can find there. There is Universal Studios, Disney World "Magic Kingdom" (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com), Disney's Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Downtown Disney, and Sea World. If you are feeling hot try one of the numerous water parks that are in area. There is also tons of shopping, and lots of different restaurants to try out. I know that my own teenager is in total heaven whenever they are in Orlando, Florida. It is great spot to go to for high school summer travel fun.

3. London, England

London, England is such a fun place to visit for high school summer travel. There is just so much history. There is nothing like being a teenager, and standing in front of Buckingham Palace. I remember getting chills at seeing how regal it was. Plus, as a teenager, it really was fun trying to get the guard to smile. I loved standing in front of Big Ben. I felt like I was in the movies while I was there. Plus, even then as a high school teenager, I was enthralled with Windsor Castle. For me, that was the coolest castle I saw while visiting the area. I also dreamed of what it must have been like to have been married at St. Paul's Cathedral. Taking a tour of London, England on the bright red double deck was one of my favorite things to do too. They also now have the London Eye Millennium Wheel (www.londoneye.com) that looks like it would be a ton of fun to go on. I highly suggest London, England for high school summer travel.

4. Quebec, Canada

I was sweet 16 when I traveled to Quebec, Canada. Out of all the places in the world that I have traveled to I have always said that old Quebec, Canada was the most romantic. With the quaint cafes, and the horse carriage rides throughout the city it totally won over my heart. I have to tell you there is nothing more amazing that looking over the Saint Lawrence River especially if it is from the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac (www.fairmont.com). Plus, although I didn't speak a word of French, I really enjoyed hearing it spoken through out the city. It was just a city that filled me with love, and I think that is how a high school student should feel at that age. Everyone wants a fairytale ending in their lives, and that city helped make you believe that could be possible. I loved it for high school summer travel.

5. Boston, Massachusetts

The history in Boston, Massachusetts is amazing. It is hard to walk anywhere in Boston without seeing some sort of great historical place. One of my favorite things to do is to walk the Freedom Trail. The Museum of Science and the Museum of Fine Arts are one of the best museums in the country to see. The New England Aquarium is a great place to visit too. I also loved to see the real "Cheers" bar in Boston. I enjoyed walking around Boston Common and riding on the Swan Boats. My favorite places to go were also going on the Boston Duck Tours around the city, shopping and eating in the North End, seeing the Paul Revere House, seeing the Old State House, and seeing the Old North Church. My all time favorite place that I enjoyed was Faneuil Hall Market Place (www.faneuilhallmarketplace.com) which is also known as Quincy Market. It is a beautiful place filled with history that is just perfect for high school summer travel.
