Makeshift Frisbee
Okay, so it's square instead of round, but it's still vaguely aerodynamic, so gather some of your fellow graduates, head out to the campus lawn, and have one last game of post-graduate Frisbee using your mortarboards. Attach as many tassels to the hat as you can fit, and see how many fly off. Just watch out for the pointy edges: school has already stolen countless hours of your life and lots of money-- don't let it take an eye too!
Fetish Gear
Speaking of roleplaying...It's black. That's a plus in most fetish circles. You can use the tassel as a makeshift flogger. See if you can find a cute and kinky graduate to help you out with this one!
Live Action RolePlaying (LARP) Shield
Great for the geeky graduate on a budget, you can use your mortarboard as a shield against the evil magic of Korgoth the Horrible. All you need is a piece of duct-tape to strap it to your arm, and you're ready to go. While it might not stand up to Gurthank the Fighter's foam LARPing sword, the mortarboard buckler is ideal for the rogue or mage with a scholarly bent. +5 vs. Student Loan Collectors!
Hands-free Serving Tray
If you're in the food business, you could use your mortarboard as an extra pair of hands when serving. Try stitching a chin-strap onto your cap for extra support, then add Table 5's Chicken-fried Steak and Fries, and voila!, you have an innovative and distinguished way to prove to people that your degree was worth something.
Bulletin Board
Use some small nails and attach your mortarboard to the wall, then use it as a bulletin board; you can use thumb-tacks to add little reminders to your graduation cap, like a note telling you when that first student loan payment is due or the number of that kinky LARPing graduate you met at the last mortarboard frisbee tournament.
