5 Great Gift Ideas for Your Holiday Host: Wine to Candy

Dana Barnett
During the holiday season, many of us will be staying home with family and friends to celebrate. However, there are many people who will be going to the homes of others for parties and dinners on Thanksgiving or Christmas. Since you will not be doing any of the cooking, cleaning, or buying of the food when you go to the home of another, it is generally a good idea to bring your host or hostess a nice gift to show your appreciation for being invited to the gathering.

Here are 5 Great Gift Ideas for your Holiday Host:

#1 Great Gift:

Flowers

I love to bring my holiday host flowers. Not only are flowers pretty and fragrant, but they are also easy to add to the holiday décor. Your host or hostess can just put the flowers in a vase and set them on a table or a counter as a centerpiece. You don't need to go all out and spend tons of money, though. A nice bouquet from the local supermarket will do just fine.

#2 Great Gift:

Wine

Unless you know that your host or hostess doesn't allow drinking at his or her home, a nice bottle of wine is always welcome at a holiday gathering. Many times, the hosts will open it during dinner, but they may also decide to save it for another time. Again, you don't need to go crazy buying a hundred dollar bottle. A nice bottle of wine can usually be purchased for $10-$20 and it is a great way to spread the holiday cheer.

#3 Great Gift:

A Unique Dessert

Although most hosts will have already prepared a dessert, bringing another dessert that is unique can be a nice gift. If you bake, make something other than pumpkin or apple pie. Try something different like Key Lime Pie or how about Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake? A store bought dessert from the supermarket or a bakery will also work.

#4 Great Gift:

Specialty Coffee

I don't know anyone who doesn't love coffee and it makes the perfect giftyou're your holiday host or hostess. I have brought coffee as a gift to a holiday party, and the host was so excited, that he ended up making it after dinner. If you know that your host is partial to a certain type of coffee-say Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, then buy them what you know they like. They will be thrilled with the thoughtful gift.

#5 Great Gift:

Candy

There are so many types of holiday candy around at this time of the year, but instead of going with something you can buy at CVS or Walmart, spend the extra money and buy a nice little box for your host at a real candy store like Godiva or Hoffman's. Your host will appreciate that you went out of your way to get them such a nice gift. If you're lucky, he or she might put it out after dinner and you might get to sample some of it!

Great ideas. We're also fans of candles. Or you could combine ideas, like we just saw these great wine bottle candles on Vinotemp International's website.
