5 Great Halloween Movies for All Ages

Raiscara Avalon
There are tons of great Halloween movies. From really dark and scary, to kiddie, to teenie bopper. I have several favorites that I watch every year to get me in the Halloween mood. Some of them bring back memories, and are a tradition I hope my daughter will continue. Some of them might strike a cord with you as well. Also, all parents should use their discretion when allowing their children to watch any movies. My 6 y/o watches all of these movies, but you might not want your child to watch, especially if they are easily frightened.

Hocus Pocus - (Rated PG) Great for all ages, and seriously my favorite Halloween movie of all times. Created by Disney, its a hilarious yet sometimes spooky tale of three witches from Salem. Needless to say, they aren't good witches. It starts off 300 years in the past, then moves to modern times. A wonderful Halloween ride for the whole family. Stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters. Released in 1993.

Double Double Toil And Trouble - (Made for TV) Great for all ages, and another one of my favorite Halloween movies. Though it might be too childish for some adults. Stars Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen as the Farmer twins. The Farmer twins have to save their Aunt Sofia from their Aunt Agatha. Very funny movie, although there are some spookier scenes. Released in 1993.

Young Frankenstein - (Rated PG) Might have questionable content for younger children. A Mel Brooks film, the story is about the grandson of Dr Frankenstein himself, who is tired of living in grandpa's shadow. Has everything one can expect from a Mel Brooks film. Stars Gene Wilder. Released in 1974.

Rose Red - (Rated PG-13) Might have questionable content for younger children. Based upon the book/screenplay by Steven King, Rose Red is the ultimate tale of a haunted house. A professor gathers a group of psychics to Rose Red in order to "awaken" it, and finds out that some things are better left alone. Everything you'd expect from a Steven King novel made into a movie. One of my favorite Steven King movies. Stars Nancy Travis. Made for TV. Released in 2002.

The Witches - (Rated PG) Great for all ages. A young boy stumbles into a witch convention and has to stop them from their evil plots. Even after being turned into a mouse. A rather strange movie, though very well done. Stars Angelica Huston. Released in 1990.
