Nettles
Nettles are an excellent source of iron and can be helpful with anemia. Taken during menstruation they can help to replenish iron in your body and give you more energy. They may also give you healthier, clearer skin and are sometimes used as a remedy for eczema. Use caution around the plants to avoid getting stung by them.
Peppermint
Peppermint is most notably used to help with upset stomachs. It also has been shown to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Some other people use peppermint to treat headaches, indigestion, respiratory problems, and dandruff. Along with its medicinal uses, peppermint can be used for so many other things that it is a good addition for any herb garden.
Chamomile
Chamomile has a calming effect making it an ideal remedy for stress and anxiety. Many people use it as a natural sleep aid, drinking a cup of chamomile tea before bed. It may also be effective for treating menstrual cramps or muscle tension since it acts as a mild muscle relaxant.
Calendula
You probably know calendula by its more common name - the marigold. These common, pretty flowers have a lot more benefits than just looking good. Calendula flowers have been used throughout history for a number of different medicinal purposes. Some of the most common are to reduce inflammation, as an antiseptic against infection, and to treat skin problems such as eczema. It is also reported to help relieve stomach ulcers and may be effective in fighting fevers. Not only that, but it will look great in your herb garden, too!
Lemon Balm
The lemon balm plant itself is quite pretty, and also has many benefits. It can be used to sooth upset stomachs,relieve indigestion and reduce gas and bloating. It also has a mild calming affect making it a good choice for relieving stress, anxiety or mild insomnia.
