5 Great Movies to Watch on Earth Day

Ambrosia Jefferson
With Earth day coming, I have been putting some thought into what movies you might want to watch. We should be thinking about the Earth everyday, not just one day a year. But Earth day is a special day to do some thinking about mother earth. So here are my top 5 for your Earth day must sees.

An Inconvient Truth: Al Gores award winning film about the climate crisis. This documentary really does show us in stark realty what we are facing. It also tackles some of the ways that we could take on the problem and try to correct the issue. Over all I enjoyed the movie, I found the hard hitting facts to be just what everyone needs. On earth day when we are thinking about the earth it's a perfect film to watch.

The Eleventh Hour: A documentary narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio that covers global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats . The film's over all premises is that the future of humanity is in jeopardy. This is another serious look at how our world is, and another good reminder for earth day that we need to change things.

The Happening: Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, this is a "what if?" style movie. It goes off the idea that we see these things coming, the signs, and here is what will happen. The movie is a great thriller, and if you don't mind being scared out a little bit this ones a great one to watch. Definitely not for kids however.

Silent Running: A 1972 ecologically-themed science fiction film directed by Douglas Trumbull showing a future in which all plant life on Earth has been made extinct, except for a few specimens that live in green house domes. This film shows an interesting look at what might happen in the far future if we don't watch things. While some of its rather unbelievable as a whole it's a good movie to watch, and sticks with that earth day theme.

The Day after Tomorrow: Another what if style of film. This one may be last in the list of five, but it's not last on what I will watch. The over all thought is how to save the world from global warming, and what happens when it takes effect. It's a great action adventure story, one that really does make you think about how what you do impacts the world.

If you're looking for something to watch this earth day watch one or all of these. If you need to buy them here are a few places you can get them:
