1. As of earlier this fall, the Wii is now $50 less than it was originally. That's right; Nintendo finally got their act together and slashed the price of the Wii game console, so it's now $199 instead of $250. For me, this is a move that's long overdue and one that Wii buyers will find a lot easier to stomach in buying a Wii than in previous years.
2. A Nintendo Wii is one of the only consoles that comes with games. When you buy a Wii, you also get the Wii Sports package, which includes bowling, baseball, golfing, tennis, and boxing. These alone will keep players occupied for a long time without having to go out and buy an expensive game right away after Christmas. Parents shouldn't have to feel obligated to buy a game just yet, and chances are, they'll have just as much fun as the kids when it comes to playing the sports games on the Wii.
3. You can create hundreds of different profiles, not just a few users. If you want different personas for yourself for each game or subgame, the Wii is the best console to do this on. You won't have to live with bad scores affecting your good scores, so you can set up a user persona on the "Mii" network to use for individual games.
4. Multi players: On Sony PS3 (which I love, by the way), you can only play with one or two people at a time. But with the Wii, you can play with at least four people, provided you have enough remotes, and possibly add on more (I don't exactly know the number extent of how many you can add, but it's at least more family-oriented than other consoles.)
5. You might want to purchase the Wii soon, as there might be another shortage issue this year as there was a couple years ago. With the new lower price of the Nintendo Wii, chances are parents will look at this as a good gift to give in a bad economy (i.e. one the whole family can use and therefore less individual presents to give).
I found this site to be fairly helpful in outlining a little more about the Nintendo Wii, so you might want to check it out before you buy it.

Good resource for those into this kind of stuff. Not for me.
I asked Santa for one. I hope he has plenty in stock. When we bought the grandson one when they first came out, it was a camp outside the store for the few they brought in, but it was worth it when I saw how great the game system was.
I think you may be right about the shortage issue this year.
