5 Great Thanksgiving Books for Adults

Thanksgiving Books and Books About Giving Thanks

Sandra Bacon
Please take a look at this listing of 5 great Thanksgiving books for adults that I believe you will enjoy reading. Although there are only five books, they are all books on Thanksgiving and they are totally different from each other.

I did this deliberately, hoping that you would find at least one book to your liking, and purchase it to read during the Thanksgiving holiday. All the books are non-fiction with the exception of one, and I included it because it is a book that I think a lot of us can relate to.

These Thanksgiving books have already been released. In fact some are several years old, but their message is just as good today, as it was then. So my suggestion is to start getting your reading books together now, and take advantage of the great deals Amazon has.

Thanksgiving is a lovely time of the year, and I sincerely hope these books on Thanksgiving will inspire you, answer questions you may have, raise more questions you need to seek the answers to and add pleasure to your reading experience.

Thanksgiving: A Time to Remember (Non-fiction)
By Barbara Rainey

This book takes us back to the Pilgrim's first celebration of plenty and even though it has some factual errors, and portrays the pilgrims in a very romantic, brave and righteous light, it is still a book worth adding to your collection of books on Thanksgiving. It is a well designed book that is filled with beautiful illustrations that are in color. You will also receive a CD with 30 minutes of Thanksgiving music. The author suggests this book be read to the entire family at Thanksgiving, and she also lets us know that Thanksgiving is more than just about eating, football and black Friday. The price is $13.59 for the hardcover, and it is in stock. http://www.amazon.com/Thanksgiving-Time-Remember-Family-Books/dp/1581345380/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251650127&sr=1-18

Thanksgiving: More than Just Turkey (Non-fiction)
by Eunice Badaki

A wonderful book about giving thanks and appreciating your life to the fullest. The author writes that our lives should be filled with thanksgiving and gratitude, and that Christ died for us, so that we could live, and in return, we as people should at least respect ourselves and each other.

She explains that we all have challenges, but that we still need to honor God, because He is the one who gave us life. We are the stewards of our lives and owe it to ourselves to turn our thoughts and actions toward something more purposeful.

Her beliefs are that we can all live with honor, reverence, gratitude, appreciation, praise and worship, which are supported by Biblical scriptures. This book is more about giving thanks, than it is about the holiday Thanksgiving, but it's something we all need to aspire to, and this is why it was included. The price is $9.95 for the paperback and it is in stock. http://www.amazon.com/Thanksgiving-More-than-Just-Turkey/dp/1440120927/ref=sr_1_150?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251652236&sr=1-150

Getting to Thanksgiving (Fiction)
by Allen Bohl (Author), Brett Bohl

I know you will absolutely love this book. Many have written rave reviews about it, but I chose to add this book not only because of Thanksgiving, but because of the family values, faith and knowing where your blessings come from.

It's an inspirational story about football coach Vince Sanford, a man and a father who has a lot on his mind. He doesn't know where his sister is, his father is sick and he discovers his grandfather had a very tragic past. But in the midst of all this, he also discovers an appreciation and joy of just being with family and friends.

During this discovery, he also realizes that Thanksgiving is a day that should be celebrated every day, not just one day of the year. It's a book that let's us know that life is filled with the grace of God, and that family relationships and giving thanks for all our blessings are important. Like Vince Sanford, we should all know our values and teach our children these values, in the hopes of passing them on. The price is $13.99 for the paperback and it is in stock. http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Thanksgiving-Allen-Bohl/dp/1599320568/ref=sr_1_102?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251654962&sr=1-102

Ingredients for a Heartfelt Thanksgiving: From the Kids at Boys Town (Non-fiction)
By Val J. Peter

Val J. Peter was the Executive Director of Boys Town and Girls Town until he retired in 2005, but in 2001 he wrote Ingredients for a Heartfelt Thanksgiving: From the Kids at Boys Town, where he explains how these boys and girls, that have experienced so much pain in their young lives, ultimately learn the healing power of gratitude during the Thanksgiving holiday.

He also states that we have so many blessings, and that we should enter a new day with an attitude of thankfulness. You will also read what some of the boys at Boy Town have to say about how grateful they are, how inspiration comes from the beauty that can be seen in the fall season, and the different ways you can cook a turkey. This is all aimed at getting you to discover or maybe rediscover what Thanksgiving is all about. The price is $5.95 for the paperback and it is in stock. http://www.amazon.com/Ingredients-Heartfelt-Thanksgiving-Kids-Boys/dp/1889322385/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251667745&sr=1-1

A Great and Godly Adventure: The Pilgrims and the Myth of the First Thanksgiving (Non-fiction)
By Godfrey Hodgson

This book is not so much about giving thanks, as it is about the true account of the first feast as it was really experienced by the Pilgrims. I included this book because like me, I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that still have the version that was told when we were in grade school.

The author does an excellent job on relating how the "Separatist" as they were called, really landed in Plymouth, how they endured the "the starving time," how they had to bury their dead so the Native Americans wouldn't know just how low their numbers were, and the complex relationship between the "Separatist" and Native Americans.

However, you may discover the book is exciting, but there are parts where the author appears to drag. If you exhibit a little patience, I'm sure you can get through those parts of the book with no problem. It's an excellent book that should seriously be read, and the slow parts should not keep you from reading it. The price is $24.95 for the hardcover and it is in stock. http://www.amazon.com/Great-Godly-Adventure-Pilgrims-Thanksgiving/dp/1586483730/ref=sr_1_154?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251659103&sr=1-154

Used Paperback: 55 from $0.10

I hope you enjoyed reading through the Thanksgiving books, and that you were able to find something you would love to purchase. There is a link that will take you directly to each book so that you can get more information if you need it.

I would like to make one observation about books on Thanksgiving for adults, and that is... there aren't many out there! The pickings are slim! We have more books for children than we do for adults, and to my dismay, anything with "adult" in it, gives the wrong message to the internet.

So needless to say, I took the liberty of changing the title to something that would not pull up the latest edition of a porn site. I'm sure Associated Content will agree with me on this one. So thank you for dropping by, go out and purchase those Thanksgiving books and happy reading!
