5 Habits You Need to Get in to Do Good in Your College Classes This Fall

Idalia Benavides
There are some habits that college students all need to get into in order to do well in all the classes they're taking. Those habits however might be something that college students barely beginning do not know. In this article I am going to mention the 5 habits that will ensure at least a high C in any class if not higher; if you're interested keep reading.

- Don't get behind
This is the most important piece of advice I can give you. Do not get behind on any work! On the contrary, from day one of class you should find out what you can do ahead of time and then do it to ensure that you will not be stressed during the semester. Sometimes what can be done early is the reading, take some extra time each day to get a chapter or two read in advanced; this will not only help you to have more extra time to do whatever you do, but it will help you understand the course more from the very beginning. You will also then have the opportunity to tutor some of your friends if you get the material correctly; or you will know what you need help with once it comes up in class.

- Take notes in class
Taking good notes is imperative! Do not think that taking notes is useless; when the tests come you will regret not taking notes or you'll hate it if you took bad notes. Always try to write down as much as you can. If your professor has a slide show up, make sure to copy it. Don't just copy slide shows though, listen to what he/she's saying and try to write down as much of that as well. If your professor allows it, you should take a small tape recorder and record his lectures. If you find that at the end of class you didn't take good notes, you should check the professors website online and look for lecture recordings; this is being done a lot now and it can help for review and for better note taking.

- Ask questions in class
Asking questions to your professor is something that successful students do. Do not be shy to ask the professor to go over something that you didn't understand. Make sure to do this often, but not too often. Sometimes you should ask questions after class or during your professors student hours.

- Do a quick review before class begins
Doing quick reviews before the class begins each day is a must. It will help you to remember where you left off and therefore ensuring that you will not be lost once the professor starts talking and lecturing on the day's subjects.

- Participate in a study group
If you feel that studying alone doesn't work for you, then finding a group to study with is the best thing that you can do. All around campus or even in your classes there's groups of people who hang out at least once a week to go over what the professor talks about. There's also usually supplemental instruction, which is like a tutoring class after your regular class in which you will get to study with someone who's taken the class previously and gotten an A. Studying with more people is the best thing you can do, as you can ask questions and help each other out.
