Some people, who are out of desperation to lower their cholesterol levels and uric acids, totally ban oils, edible oils in their daily consumption of food.
First of all, we must know that there are good and bad oils. And, we must keep track of both.
We must keep in mind that our intake as we grow old should be moderated and counted, regardless if we are sick of certain illnesses or not. And, we're talking of anything edible in general.
Moderation is the key for better health and it is one good practice of preventive medicine too that can keep us away from tons and tons of illnesses and diseases.
Adequate and appropriate amount of most edible oils can do our health lots of wonders.
Below are my top 5 healthy edible oils and the goodness it can bring to our bodies:
A. Olive oil, my favorite among them all.
It's one best source of monounsaturated fat. It is actually the juice of the olive fruit and it preserves its taste, vitamins, components and aroma as well.
The beneficial effects of olive oil to our health are brought by its richness in Vitamin E, monounsaturated fatty acids and its antioxidant contents.
What most of us are forgetting these days of high rising mortality of obesity, our bodies need cholesterol too. Yes, we do need to get rid of LDL, which is the "bad" type cholesterol, but, we absolutely need to raise our HDL ("good") too.
It is known that no other naturally produced oil that has large amount of monounsaturated fat other than olive oil that mainly contains the oleic acid.
It is well tolerated by our digestive system and is good for ulcers and gastritis.
Olive oil naturally activates the secretion of bile and pancreatic hormones, way much better than prescribed medicines/drugs. It lowers the risk of gallstone formation and colon cancer.
It has mild laxative properties, can be also be used as ear wax softener and so with the skin.
I been using it for years, oiling myself after bath and it just made skin so soft, a little bit tan, even without going to the sun and it treated my corns and calluses too.
I've also used it for facial cleansing and it gave my face that clear, youthful, glowing skin free from flaws and blemishes.
Even more, a new study revealed that olive oil can help prevent skin cancer.
"New research claims that skin cancer can be prevented by using olive oil on the skin following a period in the sun, although there are fears that people may dismiss the potentially damaging impact of ultra violet radiation (UVR). Scientists at the Japan-based Kobe University School of Medicine made the claim following tests using genetically engineered mice in which some were treated with olive oil and others left untreated. They found that tumors started to appear on the untreated mice placed under sunlamps over a three-week period, while it took another six weeks for the treated mice to show indications of the disease. Olive oil contains antioxidants which mop up chemicals known as free radicals that emerge when UVR comes into contact with a cell. However, olive oil is not able to stop ultra-violet rays from penetrating the skin and cannot be classed as a sunscreen", as published in The Independent by Financial Times, LTD.
