5 Healthy Snacks Your Kids Will Love

Sometimes the hardest decision you will face throughout your day is what foods to give your children as a snack. You want them to be happy and enjoy this time of day, but you also want them to stay healthy in the process. Incorporating healthy foods into your child's diet can be done quite simply all while providing parent and child with quality time in the kitchen creating recipes that are sure to become favorites among the entire family.

Flavored Popcorn
While you may not think of popcorn as being a suitable snack for children, it is actually quite healthy and can be fun to make with your child. One bag of fat-free or low-fat popcorn can transform into a very flavorful snack with a few sprays of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! and 1 tablespoon each of parmesan cheese and taco seasoning. Simply combine the ingredients and toss until the popcorn is evenly coated with the seasoning.

Trail Mix
Who doesn't love trail mix? This recipe is incredibly easy to make and can have many variations in accordance to your families preferences all while maintaining a healthy source of vitamins for your children. Pretzels, raisins, cranberries, cereals and nuts are all excellent variations for this delicious recipe that your kids will love.

Kid Friendly Banana Splits
Put a twist to the everyday banana split and use pudding rather than ice cream. In a small dish, cut a banana in half and top with chocolate pudding and a cherry. This recipe can also be varied according to taste. Try using other fruits such as strawberries or kiwi and and your child's favorite flavor of pudding.

Parfait
Healthy snacks don't have to be veggies. Make your kids (and mom too!) a mini parfait with your favorite yogurt and a mixture of Vanilla Wafers, graham crackers or any other healthy topping that your kids enjoy. There are endless ways to variate this recipe to your taste preferences. Your kids will love helping you come up with new recipes for the perfect mini parfait!

Mini Pizza's
Having never met a child that doesn't enjoy a good slice of pizza, this is a great way to add a little twist that the entire family will love. Instead of your basic every day grease-covered pizza, try this alternative. Split some hamburger buns and top each with 1 tablespoon of your favorite low-fat pizza sauce. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of low-fat shredded cheese and your favorite pizza toppings.

    Dont forget about adding some jerky as a side to your trail mix to make sure they get the protein they need. Make suer the jerky in minimally processed and in low in sodium. Ahi tuna jerky will also give them a dose of DHA and omega 3's.
