There's just something about owning a new gadget that makes you feel like you're on top of the world. Expensive tech can make you seem wealthy, trendy, cool and best of all - better than everyone else. Following are 5 gadgets that'll really give your ego a major boost.

Cell phones have always been a sign of social status, but cell phones nowadays are like the ultimate gadget. There are lots of high-tech cell phones on the market and the one that you choose to buy can say more about your personality than any other gadget that you own. Cell phones are a huge ego booster and owning the best cell phone in the room can really make you the Alpha-male/female.

I remember when the Xbox 360 was first released Halo 2 was still one of the most popular games on the market and even though it played equally the same on the Xbox and Xbox 360; Xbox 360 owners still managed to feel superior to players that played Halo 2 on the original Xbox. The ego boost of gaming systems goes all the way back to when you were a child and having the latest gaming system meant instant social status at school. Nowadays having the latest gaming system can make you seem trendy around the water cooler - even if you suck at video games.

I recently took up a second job selling computers at a popular retail store and every day I watch as people buy computers simply to boost their egos. Honestly, most customers that step foot into my computer store are just looking for computers to log into Facebook and do a little school work, but due to the social status associated with computers, they usually leave out with a computer that does a lot more than they'll ever need. Laptop and desktop computers aren't just for computing anymore, they also serve to boost the ego of their users - and lower the egos of those with an inferior rig.

HDTVs are such a huge ego boost that people will throw parties at their homes just to show them off. HDTVs are judged mostly by size, but having a 3DTV or LED HDTV score huge points in the tech ego world and having the best television will instantly make you the designated host for all celebrations, sporting events, and other social get togethers - even if your house isn't all too shabby.

Yep, if you own anything with an Apple logo - the latest generation that is - your ego will soar high for at least a full year- when the newer version comes out. Owning a MacBook Pro, iPad, iPod, iPhone, or iPod Touch will make you feel as though you've really accomplished something with your life. Even stepping foot into the Apple store is grounds for a huge ego boost - regardless if you buy anything or not.
