With the way the economy is right now, everyone is looking for ways to make their holiday dollar go further. There are some great finds at your local dollar store. You remember that store. It is the store where everything in it is a dollar.

#1 Holiday Gift Wrapping

Let's face it wrapping paper and gift bags are expensive. The dollar store is a great place to purchase these items. They have rolled holiday paper as well as all the accessories. Think about gift bags, ribbons, tape and gift tags. All can be purchased for a dollar. If you purchase these at other stores they will be more if not double and triple that dollar.

#2 Stocking stuffers

It has been a long tradition in our family to stuff the stockings with little trinkets, candies and a toothbrush. These items can add up quick when shopping at the department stores. The dollar store has all these items at a fraction of the cost. You aren't giving up quality either. I have found many of the same brands in my dollar store that you can find other places.

#3 Holiday Decorations

You can find small strings of lights, candles and holiday yard signs all at your dollar store as well. All of the basics plus some of the extras that you may need to decorate your home. You will also find tree trimmings. Ornaments, garland, bows and tree lights are available. Even those tree toppers that so many of us like are available.

#4 Holiday Cards

If you need boxed cards these are available. They have a variety of designs, colors and quantities. They also carry a wonderful selection of single cards. Cards can be expensive, but at the dollar store they are all just a dollar apiece and are just as nice as their expensive counterparts.

#5 Holiday Party Needs

The snack department at the dollar store shouldn't be overlooked. They may have off brand chips and crackers, but also offer some great brands as well. They also offer 3-liter sodas. Our dollar store offers Faygo, which my kids and their friends prefer. Ice tea and Sunny Delight are also usually offered. Most dollar stores have baking supplies as well. Cake mixes, cupcake mixes, spices and frosting can all be found for less expensive than the department stores.
