If you don't plan to trick-or-treat this Halloween but still want some fright in your night, rent a creepy movie. Is there anything more chilling than a horror movie about a twisted and psychotic serial killer? This Halloween, enjoy a good scare from the comfort (and safety) your living room.
Psycho
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, "Psycho" is a classic horror film based on the novel by Robert Bloch. Many movie critics believe "Psycho" set the tone for all the serial killer horror movies that came afterward. Any scary movie that involves a psychopath with a split personality is good for a fright. But when one of the multiple personalities is the psycho's mother, the movie is downright horrifying. The character of Norman Bates is based on the real-life serial killings of Ed Gein. This chiller will make you sleep with your lights on for days.
Silence of the Lambs
An absolute nail-biter, "Silence of the Lambs" tops the list of horrifying movies that continue to disturb you. Based on the novel by Thomas Harris, "Silence of the Lambs" chronicles the efforts of female FBI agent Clarice Starling as she tries to outsmart a madman who skins his victims. Starling enlists the aid of one imprisoned serial killer, Hannibal Lector, to help her catch the other serial killer, Jame Gumb (Buffalo Bill). This psychological cat-and-mouse game takes unexpected turns that may have you thinking about this scary movie for days.
Seven
"Seven" is a smart thriller about detectives searching for one of the most disturbing serial killers ever portrayed in a horror movie. John Doe believes it's his duty to kill people who commit one of the seven deadly sins. This guy is a gruesome monster. It's the perverted logic of his meticulous and horrific killings that makes this movie captivating, in a hauntingly creepy way. There is so much layering and symbolism in "Seven" that you may want to watch the movie more than once, if you dare.
Copycat
An agoraphobic psychologist who specializes in serial killers is threatened by a serial killer who copies other serial killers; "Copycat" is based on a brilliant premise. Peter Foley is an egotistical serial killer seeking fame by mimicking other well-known serial killers. This thriller is brimming with suspension and intrigue. Even without the violence and bloodshed that most horror movies thrive on, "Copycat" can certainly be classified as a scary movie.
The Bone Collector
Based on a novel by Jeffery Deaver, "The Bone Collector" is a dark and twisted tale of a quadriplegic ex-NYPD forensics detective and a sadistic serial killer. The interesting convention in this scary movie is that the nation's leading profiler has a razor sharp mind but a broken body. He is pulled grudgingly into the case, coupled with a complete rookie. The killer collects bones from his victims and then leaves ingenious clues, which makes for a mystery-and-suspense movie that holds your attention to the very end.
Happy Halloween!
The serial killers on this list are fictional (or loosely inspired by real serial killers).

I'll stay away from these. I can't stand movies like this, but some love 'em. I guess I'm a scaredy-cat!
