5 Ideas on How to Make Spring Break Memorable

Lindsey Russell
Tired of the same old Spring Break clichés? Here are some tips assured to shake things up and make Spring Break very memorable, not just a drunken orgy.

1. Travel to a location with a historic connection.

If you really love history, gather a group of friends and travel to a location with a rich history. Washington, D.C. is a great option. Not only are there lots of historic sites to visit in and around the area (more than you'd ever be able to see in one visit), there is also a lot of options for entertainment and nightlife. Traveling to a historic location does not mean that you can't have fun and kick back.

2. Participate in Alternative Spring Break.

Alternative Spring Break is a program on many college and university campuses that provide college students with an opportunity to travel to a different area of the country, or another country entirely, in order to participate in a community service project over their Spring Break. Rest assured, if you participate in Alternative Spring Break, you will work hard. However, you will also have the opportunity to party just as hard, if you so wish. It is unlike anything else you'll experience in your college career.

3. Plan the Great College Road Trip with your best friends.

You don't need to spend a lot of money or travel to an exotic, sun-drenched location in order to have fun on Spring Break. Just getting your best friends together for a road trip is enough. If you decide to pursue this idea, be sure to start planning way in advanced. You don't want to be disappointed when all of your friends tell you that they already have plans for Spring Break.

4. Participate in a study abroad program.

There are now study abroad programs that take place over Spring Break (at least at Michigan State University). Not only will you be exposed to an intense, out of classroom learning experience, you will get credit for doing so. It is also a great way to broaden your horizons and get comfortable with the whole idea of studying abroad. You might even later decide to study abroad for an entire semester or year.

5. Plan a get-together with friends at other colleges or universities.

Why not use the time off during Spring Break to visit your friends at other colleges and universities? You will have the opportunity to visit other college campuses and get a feel for college life at other universities. If you feel like it, you could even host some of your friends and show them why you are so proud to attend your college or university. Either way, you will be sure to have a great time and have the opportunity to reconnect with friends that you don't get to see often.

With a little ingenuity, you won't have to face those crowds in Cancun, Daytona Beach, Panama City. Rest assured, you won't be missing out. There is much more to Spring Break than sex, drugs, and rock and roll. No matter what you decide to do, there is still room for fun.
