When we think of Thanksgiving, we think of gaining weight because of the tempting, rich, and succulent desserts. The good news is there is no need to sabotage your weight any longer because this easy to prepare dessert will please taste buds while not wrecking havoc on your waist line. It requires only five simple ingredients that can be bought at any supermarket; the recipe takes about two hours to make. This dessert will not be a mere empty calorie dish because you will consume some beta carotene from the sweet potatoes and healthy monounsaturated fat from the pecans.

Incredible Sweet Potato Pecan Crumble

4-5 large (organic if possible) sweet potatoes cleaned

3 ½ tablespoons brown sugar

½ cup crumbled pecans

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ cup organic dried cranberries (or another dried fruit you like)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Bake the sweet potatoes in a glass dish or another dish of your choice for 40 to 75 minutes. It depends on the type of sweet potato and size, so bake until the potato is very soft to touch with a spoon.

After potatoes are cooked to a soft texture, let it cool for at least ten minutes. Then, using a spoon, take out only the insides of the potatoes and put into a bowl. Mash the potatoes until a smooth texture is created.

Add in the dried cranberries (or other fruit you chose) and mash the potatoes again. Afterwards, place this batter into a baking dish.

In a different bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and pecans. Add this mixture on top of the sweet potato/cranberry mix.

Place aluminum foil on top of the dish and bake for 25 minutes at 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

If after you bake and notice that the top is not hard and crust-like, then continue to bake until the top is hard, but not burnt.
