5 Inspirational Verses from the Bible

Sarah Robison
Here are five verses from the Bible that I really love and that I turn back to again and again. They have all helped me with struggles and trials that I have gone through, and that I think many of us do go through. It was really hard to pick just five, but I think these verses can help us all to become more Christ-like and come closer to God.

1. 1 Corinthians 10:13
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

We all have temptations in our lives that we know we shouldn't give into, and a lot of the time they seem too much for us to bear. But I know that God will not allow us to be tempted above that which we can handle when we turn to Him for support.

2. St. John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Many times in my life when everything seemed out of my control and the world seemed to be crashing down, I would turn to this verse. No matter what happens in our lives, we can always find peace in Christ and following his commandments. The peace that we find in Christ is not a "worldly peace" such as money, fortune, and temporal wealth, but is an inner peace of knowing that God has a plan for us and during our trials no matter how hard they seem, we can come unto Him and He will comfort us and help us through anything.

3. St. Mathew 25:40
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

When we are going through hard times it seems difficult to concentrate on others and try to help them in their struggles. Reading this verse reminds me that when I do something for someone else, even if it is something small like visiting the sick or elderly or stopping by to visit a friend who is going through a rough time, the Savior sees these things as if you have done them unto Him. When we help our brothers and sisters it helps us to forget about our own problems and to look outside of ourselves and realize that everyone has trials. Jesus' life was dedicated to helping others, and since He is our greatest example of how we should strive to live, we should look to help others before dwelling on our own trials.

4. Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

God is the creator of all. He knows each of us better than we know ourselves and He has a plan for each of us; His children. When we give our trust to the Lord we allow Him to come into our lives and direct us. When I have acknowledged His hand in my life I begin to see all the ways in which He has helped me and given me direction in what I should do, and this always gives me peace to know that He is by my side guiding me.

5. Leviticus 19:5-20
"Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord."

When we hold a grudge or have the desire to "get back at someone" that is not of the Lord, but of the devil. I know that it is incredibly hard to love someone who has hurt you or someone else in some way. Holding onto a grudge just makes your life more miserable, whereas letting it go and forgiving people helps you to be free from it and allow more love to come into your life, and allows you to move on.
