When going for an interview for a job, be as ready as you can before walking through the door. Here are a few things you should never do during an interview.
1. Never answer the questions with just a yes or no answer.
Elaborate as much as possible on your answer. You need to sell yourself, making them feel comfortable with you. You cannot do that by answering their questions with a simple yes or no.
2. If you don't have experience with a certain aspect of the job duties, don't just say you do not have any experience with that aspect, elaborate.
Be sure to tell them any experience that is closely related to that duty and how you are eager and willing to learn what ever is needed to help you to do the job to the best of your ability.
3. Never show up for an interview wearing taggered, torn or wrinkled clothes.
It doesn't matter if you are applying to work on a trash truck, dress appropriately for the position you are applying for. If it is an office or management position, make sure you wear a nice dressy outfit. It doesn't have to be a suit and tie, but business like attire. If it is a labor postion, a nice shirt and jeans would be appropriate, but make sure it isn't a t-shirt that has some crazy logo on it.
4. Do not stare at the floor during the interview.
Eye contact is very important during an interview. If you are being interviewed by more than one person, try to look back and forth between the individuals as you answer their questions. Do not stare them down, and you don't have to look at them the whole time. It's ok to look away once in a while, but while talking directly to them, try to keep eye contact. Do not stare out the window either.
5. Do not answer your cell phone during the interview.
Everyone has a cell phone. Make sure if you have it with you it is turned off or on vibrate. If you feel it vibrating, just let it go. Answering a phone call during an interview will not make a good impression. Do not ask to be excused to use the bathroom during the interview either. Again, not making a good impression. They will see it as you being easily distracted.

These are a few things that are frowned upon during an interview. They know you are going to be nervous and that is ok. Just familiarize yourself with the job description and what your duties are going to be prior to the interview. You cannot be too prepared for an interview.
