5 Key Reasons Why Michael Vick Should Be the Starting Quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010

Alfonso Coley
Given the fact that Donovan McNabb is no longer a fundamental part of the Philadelphia Eagles offensive playmaking schemes - it would seem more likely that Michael Vick should have got the starting QB role for the Eagles. Not only does Vick have the experience to lead the Eagles into a playoff and divisional win in 2010, but it is more likely that he now presents leadership skills that can lead the Eagles to the Promised Land in 2011.

During the 2009 season there were glimpses of Michael Vick's greatness, and if he had the opportunity he may have accomplished great things in Philadelphia. Andy Reid's logic to start Kevin Kolb instead of Vick may be a mistake that could come back and haunt him in the upcoming 2010 NFL season.

Even though Vick did sustain a minor leg injury during the end of the season, it was clear that he was willing to sacrifice his body to help the Eagles win a Divisional Title. Michael Vick skill level and continued education at the quarterback position could only improve under the guidance of proper leadership and motivation from suitable coaching.

Not only is Michael Vick a threat at running the ball, he also changes the dynamic the way that opposing defenses plan against the rush and pass. I personally think it is a mistake to start Kevin Kolb instead of Vick, due to the resounding fact that Michael Vick can change the momentum of a game due to his dynamic playmaking abilities.

Will Coach Andy Reid squander away another opportunity in 2010 - believing not to utilize Michael Vick in the upcoming 2010 NFL season, or will Vick be a shoe-in wild cat option to fill the void in the Eagles offensive play calling schemes?

It seems completely absurd that the Philadelphia organization would agree to pay Michael Vick his settled upon 1.5 million signing bonus and not utilize his talents to the utmost, in the end, this may be one of the 5 key reasons why the Eagles will never win a Super Bowl in 2010 and beyond.

Thanks AJ for leaving your comment on my Vick article, oh - and it seems as though some of my previous readers are eating crow right now, and it may only be a matter of time to see how many games he will play for the remainder of the season.

It is simply amazing that anyone would pick Kolb over Vick to lead the Eagles into the 2010 season, he is a proven veteran, not because he is black, but more so because of his skill level. Vick can change the rhytim and pace of the game, it will be interesting to if Coach Andy Reid will stick with Kolb if he has a very bad start in the upcoming 2010 NFL season.

I disagree with Place about Michael Vick not being a true NFL quarterback, due to his unfortunate Hiatus away from football for one year - this broke his learning curve, but that is the end of that chapter, time will tell how well Kolb will do in the upcoming season.

Kolb is 1-1 and the win is against the 4-12 kc chiefs the other win was against the Super Bowl champs. The difference is he was allowed to pass, Vick wasn't. He had 4tds and 3 int. which isn't good and will probably just be chalked up to inexperience. However, the Eagles do not want a guy who flies by the seat of his pants which is why they haven't opened the door to Vick. They need a guy who just throws the ball...that said, after a few int's during the season or a few incompletions the Fans will begin the chant "VICK, VICK, VICK" which is why they will trade Vick away. No Qb besides Manning, Brady, or Breese could handle MV behind them chomping to get in the game. So to avoid any type of distractions to Kolb they will trade him before the beginning of the season.

He should start - at wideout. Too bad he can't throw well enough to be a championship QB.

You don't think that if Mike Vick was really any good, he'd have been picked up by someone? They dangled him for trade harder than they did McNabb and no one bit. Face it, Vick has lost his bursting speed and cutting ability and he was never that good of a passed in the first place. Can he become a better passer? Sure. But why spend the time on him? Kevin Kolb is already a better passer than Vick and has a higher potential, is younger, and isn't the PR problem Vick is/can be.

What flashes of greatness, Kolb played two game where he threw over 300 yards.I agree with Joe

You forgot to list your main reason...He is African American.

I say give the kid a chance and let us see what he can do before you start clamoring for Vick.
