Let's face it. The economy is not so great at the moment. For those of you with kids this could bring about many challenges. Kids do not always understand the world from an economical standpoint. In addition, kids need culture and activity to keep them busy. So what should parent do today? Here are 5 budget-friendly ideas.

1) Playing Sports: Whether your kids are playing in a league or the family just gets out together and goes to the local park to play catch or football etc. Playing sports for children is not only usually a budget-friendly activity but it is also a great way to keep your kids active and in shape which can lead to a lifetime of healthy habits.

2) Museums: Many states have multiple museums. Often these museums charge a minimal admission fee if one at all. Museums are not only a budget-friendly idea but they can be exceptionally educational and cultural as well. The great thing about museums is that they work for many age groups. 3) Sporting Events for Farm Teams or College Games: For many going to a professional sporting event can be costly. Tickets to a game for a family of four can run at a minimum $100, then add in parking which can be about $30, tack on food for the family at minimum another $50-$100 so again quite a bit of money. Now consider a semi-professional game. The tickets can be as cheap as $6, usually there is free parking or parking at a minimal rate, and the food is much less expensive. Hockey and baseball are usually good bets for farm teams and just about anywhere has a local college team.

4) Going to Festivals: Many states and towns have summer festivals, fall festivals, winter festivals etc. These generally boast low admission rates and can keep the entire family occupied for hours on end. In addition to seasonal festivals many states and cities have festivals such as jazz fests, folk festival, craft fairs etc.

5) Doing Crafts/Cooking At Home: There are many books on the market today that specialize in kids activities. Special cookbooks and books about doing crafts. These are also found online. For a minimal cost you can get your child's creative juices flowing and for a minimal cost.
