5 Kitchen Appliances that Save Money

Following are five appliances that can save you hundreds of dollars in fast or processed food costs every month.

Coffee Maker

Our society has become accustomed to drive-thru living. We get everything from drive-thrus these days. The biggest money waster at the drive-thru is coffee. That double-mocha latte you paid five dollars for could have bought you a whole week of homemade double-mocha lattes. If you don't want to push a button to make your own coffee drinks at home, think about your carbon footprint. The coffee drinks you make at home can go into a reusable travel mug. The coffee drinks you get from that Seattle based coffee company come in plastic or paper cups that go straight to the landfill.

Bread Machine

For the cost of one loaf of bread from a grocery store, you can make the equivalent to five loaves of bread at home in a bread machine. If you take a look at the ingredients in that grocery store bread you'll discover a whole list of ingredients you may not even be able to pronounce. If you don't want to push a button to make your own bread at home, consider the fact that homemade bread has only ingredients you know like flour, water, yeast, salt and sugar. That grocery store bread has a whole lot of chemicals and preservatives. Which would you rather feed your family?

Rice Cooker

For the cost of one package of instant rice, you can buy a pound of regular rice. You may like instant rice because it comes out fluffy every time but did you know you can get the same results for a fraction of the cost with regular rice and an automatic rice cooker? Whether you are cooking white rice, brown rice or long grain and wild rice, a rice cooker will cook it perfectly, at a fraction of the cost, with practically no work on your part. If you can measure one cup of rice and two cups of water, you can use a rice cooker.

Crock Pot

Do you come home exhausted at the end of the day? Would you rather pick up fast, expensive food on the way home than cook something fresh at home? You can eliminate the guilt of not wanting to feed your family fast food every day by getting a crock pot. With a crock pot, you can simply add all the ingredients to the pot in the morning (or even the night before) and then just turn it on before you go to work. When you get home, you'll have a healthy homemade meal ready and waiting.

Rotisserie

Just can't get enough of that rotisserie chicken from Boston Market? For a fraction of the cost, you can make your own rotisserie chicken at home in about the same time it will take you to go out and buy it. Just skewer a whole chicken on the spit, season with a little seasoned salt and poultry seasoning and let the rotisserie do the work.

These days, more and more people are feeling a financial pinch. Instead of letting it get the best of you and your family, why not make the most of it? All five of these appliances can be bought inexpensively and even on the cheap if you look for them in thrift stores, yet every one of them will produce a healthier product at a fraction of what it would cost you to buy it on the way to or from work.

Saving money doesn't have to mean going without.

  • Would you rather pay 5 cents or $5 for a cup of Joe?
  • Would you rather pay 30 cents or $3 for a loaf of bread?
  • Wouldn't you like to have a home cooked dinner waiting for you when you get home?
For the cost of one week's worth of frou-frou coffee drinks at that Seattle based coffee franchise, you can buy a great coffee or cappuccino maker for your home and drink the same drink at a fraction of the cost!
