5 Lipsticks that Whiten Teeth

Finding the perfect shade of lipstick can be tricky, especially if you don't have the whitest teeth. Whitening your teeth can get expensive, but there is a much cheaper way to pull off a nice shade of lipstick and make your teeth look whiter at the same time. The answer? The tint of the lipstick. The trick is to pick a cool-toned lipstick with blue undertones that will counteract the yellow on your teeth, making your teeth appear whiter at the same time. Because it can be difficult to see undertones sometimes, here is a list of four of my favorite cool-toned lipsticks and one surprise product.

MAC Dark Side. This is a bold, deep berry lipstick that is perfect for winter. It has cool purple-blue undertones and can be intensified or muted. To mute, apply an untinted chapstick to your lips first to moisturize them. Then dab Dark Side lightly across your bottom lip. Press your lips together to get the color onto your top lip, and very gently blend across both lips using your finger. Dark Side can very easily be work to work or class this way! To intensify, use a matching lipliner of your choice. Line, and then fill your lips with the liner. Then apply Dark Side using a small stiff brush for long lasting bold lips!

MAC All's Fair. All's Fair is a medium-toned plum, not nearly as dark as Dark Side. It is a discontinued MAC lipstick, but don't let that deter you - it can be easily purchased online from various overstock sellers. This is a beautiful daytime shade that will give you a youthful look as it whitens your teeth!

L'Oreal HIP Driven. As with any other HIP product, the color payoff of Driven is absolutely incredible. The shade is similar to Dark Side, but packs a powerful punch with a slight shimmer. It can be found in any drugstore for a reasonable price, but is right on par with high-end brands like MAC and NARS in terms of quality.

GOSH Bourgogne. Bourgogne is one of the most beautiful lipsticks I have ever used. This color suits any skin tone perfectly, and its blueish sheen will detract any hints of yellow from your teeth with ease! Gosh products are a little harder to find, but can be ordered online from their website. This shade is a must-have for anyone who likes playful colors!

Benefit California Kissin'. Saving the best for last! California Kissin' is one of those lip glosses that you walk right past in the makeup store and don't give a second thought to. Why? It's blue! That's right, this is a sheer, light blue shimmer gloss. Many people would not consider wearing this by itself, despite the fact that the color is so sheer it is barely noticeable. However, California Kissin' is the perfect topcoat for any lipstick that you would like to give you a brighter smile! If you can't find a cool-toned lipstick, simply find a shade that you like and apply California Kissin' on top of it. This will add a hint of shimmer and shine to your lips while the hint of blue erases yellowness from your teeth! This can be applied on top of anything, so take a risk and enjoy your whiter smile!
