5 Little Known Facts About the Movie, Matango

Bridget Ilene Delaney
Matango is hardly a piece of cinematic glory, magic, or wonder. It has been called "the worst horror movie ever made." However, it can be a great movie to watch if B Horror movies are loved, especially if people like to snark (make sarcastic comments about the things) the movie. It is great to know facts about the movie during this time because it gives more to say.

The English Title of Matango is Attack of the Mushroom People.

While the name of the movie in Japanese is transliterated as Matango, the name of the movie in English is Attack of the Mushroom People. The English title makes more sense for the movie as it is not known what Matango is prior to watching the movie.

Matango Is a Type of Mushroom.

Matango, while not real, is a supposed type of mushroom. It is not know if this sound is supposed to mean anything in Japanese or if it is just a made up word. However, it is the type of mushroom that the characters find and eat during the movie.

Japan Almost Banned Matango.

Even though the movie is Japanese, Japan almost banned the movie. The reason for almost banning the movie was that some of the make up made people resemble how people looked after the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki (and they don't look that horrible, so imagination makes it worse knowing this fact).

The Mushrooms in Matango Were Edible.

There are mushrooms that are edible and mushrooms that are poisonous. In the movie, the matango mushrooms are supposed to cause some type of disease or addiction. However, in the making of the movie, the prop mushrooms were made of edible rice pastry so they were easy for the actors to eat.

The Mushrooms Tasted Good.

The prop mushrooms also tasted good. This is because they were not only made of edible rice pastry. They were made of flavored edible rice pastry. This was done because the actress Kumi Mizuno was well liked. The producers of the movie did not want to make her eat unflavored rice pastry.
