The movie, Casablanca , can be slow at times, so it is good to know trivia about the movie that can be shared while watching it.

The Lines that Everybody Quotes Isn't in the Movie

Everybody thinks they are quoting Casablanca when they say, "Play it again, Sam." However, the line "Play it again, Sam," is never in the movie, Casablanca . Also, the misquoted line is not said by a female character. It is said by Rick and the quote is, "You played it for her, you can play it for me. Play it!". After that, Ilsa says "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By.'"

Ingrid Bergman Was a Deal

Ingrid Bergman (who played Ilsa Lund) was a deal for the movie producers. They paid her $25,000 to star in Casablanca . The reason this was a deal is because the person wanted was Michele Morgan, but she wanted $55,000 and Hal B. Walls refused to pay that much to an actress.

The First Lady of Jazz Might Have Been in the Movie

Ella Fitzgerald, along with Hazel Scott and Lena Horne tried out for a role in the movie. That role was the pianist. However, a male was chosen to play Sam. Having a female pianist would have changed the tone of the scene and the male pianist worked well.
