Try These Inexpensive Fundraising Ideas for Your Next Fundraiser

Are you looking for a way to make the most money from your fundraising activities? Instead of getting a small profit from selling candy or magazine subscriptions, why not maximize your fundraising dollars with one of these low-cost fundraising ideas?

Fundraising Idea #1 - Potato Bar

Potatoes are cheap to purchase. Bake the potatoes and serve them with a variety of toppings. Sour cream, melted cheese, bacon, broccoli, chili, and spaghetti are popular potato toppers. When you load up a potato with these toppings, it makes a full meal. This is a great fundraising idea for churches. You can serve the potatoes right after church when the congregation is hungry.

Fundraising Idea #2 - Auction

Have every person or family involved in the fundraiser donate an item or service. You can get more money out of an auction than a garage sell since people will have fun outbidding one another. Since all items and services are donated, you won't be out any money. Every bit of money made from this fundraiser will be pure profit.

Fundraising Idea #3 - Car Wash

There is a reason why this is such a popular fundraising idea. It's inexpensive and fun! Buy some buckets, soap, and rags. Set up near a water supply and get washing. Consider making the cost "donation only". If you set a price of $5, then people will pay $5. If you make it "donation only", people are more likely to pay more for a good cause.

Fundraising Idea #4 - Dinner Theater

Do you have some aspiring actors and actresses in your midst? Combine a spaghetti or all-you-can-eat pancake dinner with a play. Advertise your dinner theater in the local newspaper to generate some interest. Offer people entertainment to go along with their full belly. If you use a play in the public domain, you aren't out any costs to use this fundraising idea.

Fundraising Idea #5 - Just Ask

Let people know there is a need. If you are raising money for a youth group trip, let the rest of the church know about it. If your child's school needs money, mention it to your friends and family. I'm usually more than willing to help out a good cause. I just don't have any need for candy, extra magazines, or cheap items. There are many generous people out there who would much rather just donate money.

Excellent ideas -- especially "Just ask!" I, too, don't need candy or cookes laying around. I've often just given the kid the money and told her to keep the cookies!

I love these fundraiser ideas! Especially the potato bar. We always got excited when they had this in the cafeteria at work but I never thought of doing that as a dinner fundraiser.

Great Tips! I have done a lot of fundraising in the past and some restaurants (think Applebees) will allow your youth group to hold a pancake breakfast and keep all the proceeds (Applebees donates the food!) as long as the youth serve as the waiters and waitresses.
