You may be on a tight budget but compromising on certain beauty products will take its toll on your skin. I've tried and tested hundreds of skincare, makeup, and beauty products over the years and only a handful really stand out as "must-have" products each season. The biggest reason? Quality. While price does play an important role when deciding what to stock up on each season, there are a few products that are worth splurging on.
When your basic lineup of makeup and skincare products are helping to preserve your skin and enhance your natural features, you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on more product. Here are just five luxury beauty products that are worth the splurge:
#1: L'Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream Rich in Shea Butter
If you're going to treat your skin this season, do it with L'Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream Rich in Shea Butter. This is the most concentrated moisturizer I've found to date and is perfect for keeping your skin soft, supple, and nourished. Use it right after exfoliating in the shower and whenever you want to revive dehydrated and flaky skin. It's definitely a splurge at $40 per jar, but you only need a very small amount to get results. Tip: Mix it with a less expensive moisturizer to make it last longer.
#2: Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel
If you're bothered by puffy eyes or dark circles, the delicate skin around your eyes needs a heavy dose of moisturizer. Not all eye creams are alike and I've found that the Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel, $38 at Sephora, is still the best quick-fix solution for relieving puffiness and making dark circle less noticeable. This product actually isn't designed to be a dark circle treatment but it does help to plump and firm the skin around the eyes to create a more revitalized and rejuvenated appearance.
#3: Benefit Cosmetics Posietint
If you're a fan of blush and like that contoured look with your foundation, make sure you're using a high-quality cheek stain. Benefit's Posietint, $29 at Sephora, is a lightweight liquid that you literally paint on your cheeks instead of dusting on like a traditional blush. It gives you very sheer coverage and is incredibly easy to blend with all types of makeup. Use it year round to create a more natural, flushed look without worrying about the mess of a powder of blush.
#4: Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
One of the day spas I go to regularly introduced me to this exfoliating product years ago and I've been using it ever since. The Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, $40 from Dermalogica, is unlike any other exfoliant or scrubs you've used because it in powder form. You need to mix it with some water to create a rich paste, then apply it like a scrub. The rice enzymes and salicylic acid in this product break down blemishes and other ingredients like oatmeal and green tea help to soothe the skin. You can use it every day to keep skin clear and glowing.
#5: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
When you want to lighten up in the makeup department, a tinted moisturizer can be a convenient alternative to liquid foundation. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, $42 at Sephora, is a super-lightweight moisturizer with just the right amount of color for light coverage. What's great about this moisturizer is it contains SPF 20 and doubles as a primer when you're using mineral makeup. It provides sheer coverage and blends easily into the skin, leaving you with a flawless - not pasty - finish.
