5 Major Issues with the Linksys E2500 Advanced Dual-Band N Router
The Worst Features of the Linksys E2500 Router
The Linksys E2500 advanced dual-band N router boasts great features like easy set-up, dual-band N connectivity, fast speeds, and all at an affordable price, but if you're wondering what the catch is, continue to read these major issues with this router.
The Software is Limited
One of the biggest selling points of the Linksys E2500 advanced dual-band N router is its easy set-up via the enclosed Cisco set-up disk. Let's face it, connecting a network set-up can be a major headache and although the enclosed set-up disc makes configuring your new network a cinch, it comes at less than ideal price; limited features. The software's interface has all of the basics covered, but advanced features aren't listed at all and professional networkers are bound to find this lack of features very frustrating.
Poor Range
When most people hear the words "Wireless N" they usually imagine great range and awesome speeds, but all wireless N routers aren't created equal and the wireless range of the Linksys E2500, while not bad, will leave lots of consumers underwhelmed. Fortunately this advanced router comes bundled with additional antennas for additional range, but they hardly do much to help the poor range of the Linksys E2500 router.
Requires Live Internet
A major flaw of the Linksys E2500 router that will come as a total surprise to most consumers is that the Linksys E2500 requires a live internet connection to work. This might not sound like a huge deal, but if you're internet signal is interrupted or disconnected, you'll be unable to connect and share within your network until you resume a live internet connection - which is a real big bummer.
Lack of LED Light Support
The Linksys E2500 advanced router sports a minimalistic, stylish and very modern design, but it proves to be just a bit too minimalistic. Most routers feature blinking LED lights that show network connectivity and which devices are active on the network, but the Linksys E2500 does without this feature, which can really cause headaches during troubleshooting situations.
Weak 2.4 GHz Signal
The Linksys E2500 features dual-band N support with both a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz wireless network connection, but the speed of the 2.4 GHz server is subpar and offers a lot less speed than was expected. Fortunately, the 5 GHz server is speedy, but why have a dual-band router if you're only going to use a single server?
