Memorial Day is a weekend that is equated to grilling and relaxing but some years I like to use the extra day to do a weekend get away.

Austin, Texas is a great city if you have never been to it. It is the home of University of Texas and offers the Lone Star State culture but also it is a Southwest enriching experience too. The small town feel is really the plus point but it also offers so many art galleries, museums, restaurants and with over 300 days of sunshine how can you not want to visit this place! Several years ago, a bunch of my friends and I went down to Hilton Head Island, SC for a Memorial Day weekend get away. It was the best time to go, there were apple blossoms and the annual art and cultural festival was taking place. The beaches are amazing here. The island also has a great golf course for those of you who love to golf. We took a sunset cruise on a yacht that was so nice. Speaking of South Carolina, another great place to visit Charleston, SC. This is a city full of history and a place to pay homage to our past heroes. There are amazing plantation homes to see. You really get a rustic feel by walking on the cobblestone streets and if you are like me, I tool the horse and carriage ride to view tour the city and get a true feel of southern hospitality.
