5 Money Saving Makeup Tips

Monica Bullock
In today's economy, buying makeup ranks low on the list when it comes to spending money. However, going out without makeup could be embarrassing. Make your makeup multi-task, like you do. Salvage "broken" makeups instead of losing money. Try these five money saving makeup tips and get more beauty for your buck. Think twice before purchasing a new lipstick or cheek color. These money saving makeup ideas will work for anyone.

1. Buy a few lip-gloss pots. You can find them at craft stores. Scoop out the remnants of an almost used or broken lipstick. Place it in the lip-gloss pot. Melt the gloss for a few seconds in the microwave. The lip product will melt to fill in the pot. Use a lip brush to apply the product to your lips.

2. Dab a lipstick on your cheeks for a matching color. Dab small dots of lipstick along the cheekbone. Rub in the dots with the pads of your fore and index finger. Apply lipstick to your lips like normal. Do not use a lip plumper lipstick on your cheeks. This will save you money and color coordinates your lip and cheek colors.

3. Use your summer mineral powder makeup as a bronzer in winter. Instead of wearing blush, give yourself a healthy glow by applying the bronzer to your cheeks, forehead and chin. Use a large kabuki brush to make even sweeps. Don't over do it, you don't want to look orange.

4. Fill a sink with hot water. Make sure your mascara tube is sealed shut. Drop the tube in the water and allow it to float for one minute. This will moisten dry mascara and make it easier to remove from the tube. Drain the sink and grasp the tube with a towel. After drying it quickly, open it and sweep on the mascara.

5. Don't go in for fancy eye makeup removers. Use baby oily. Dab some on a cotton ball and wipe the eye area gently. Some prefer cotton balls but flat cotton pads or toilet tissue work best.

Baby oil? Are you kidding? The mineral oil is so comedogenic! Extra Virgin olive oil is actually good for skin AND effective.

Oh, and if you have to toss a dried up mascara into a sink of water, it is time for a new one. Really.

Don't even get me started on the idea of microwaving makeup items. Jeesh.

This is the saddest beauty advice I have EVER read.
