1) Folders - Basic colored or non colored pocket folders. Every teacher is gooing to require these, and even if they don't it's a good idea to stock up on these. So a good rule of thumb is to buy 3 folders per class. The worse case scenario is that you don't need as many as you bought, and they can be used to turn in reports in a neat fashion or used around the house to organize papers.
2) Pens and pencils - You can go wrong with these items. Since there is a sale, might as well stock up on these things. You're going to be required to have a at least 2 pens for each class. Every math class is going to require at least 2 pencils, and every other class is going to require a writing utensil. Try to buy these things in bulk. Many of the better sales will give you 20 pens for 15 cents.
3) Paper - All of the classes are guaranteed to require the need of paper. However, most of the them will also require a notebook that is devoted to that one class. Some of the classes will require a notebook for one item, and another notebook for another item. Because this is the case, buy a number of these notebooks. It is impossible to have too many notebooks. The slim small kind is fine, and if your student has one notebook for each subject it will help them to stay on top of their classes and their work.
Loose leaf paper and printer paper. This is always a debate with many families. As a teacher, this should never be debated. You will definitely need loose leaf paper. There will be teachers who ask you to fill binders with it, and you never know when you just needs some paper. Look at the bulk loose leaf paper. The smaller stacks will save you some money, but do your shopping and pay attention. If you can buy 20 sheets for 20 cents, but 500 sheets in $4 dollars, that is a better deal. Pay close attention to the quantity compared to the price. These office supply manufactures make their money off of consumers who don't pay attention.
4) Binders - 1, 2, and 3 inch binders. Buy all of these. If you find an outstanding sale price for these things, buy them all. But 1 to two of them per class. Many classes will require you to have a binder for home and a home work binder for class. There are even some science classes that ask you to have an additional binder for the labs, as well as an notebook. The great thing about these binders is that you can always take them back. Binders are never a nonreturnable item, so buy a lot at a sale price, return them when you find out what your student needs.
5) Mints - Yes, you read that right. Mints. It has been proven in study after study that mints help a student concentrate and increases blood flow tot he brain. Not only that, the little bit of sugar they have is a nice pick me up in the dreaded early mornings of school. Plus, it has also been shown that if a person sucks on a mint they will be less likely to be hungry. Your body believes since you are constantly sucking it is being fed, and it never sends the "I'm Hungry" out to the body till it is truly hungry. This will save your money with those odd middle of the day snacks that teenagers love to grab. It will stop your student from eating the only stuff that are snacks which is fries or gobs of sugar. Not only that, but they will be more alert and able to pay attention in school. These are a win win for everyone. Not only that, but during back to school sales you can find bags of 1000 of these for about $5.

Post a CommentGood ideas. And I was always big on stocking up while things were on sale because a lot of those things you're going to continue to need throughout the year. A good place for generic things are dollar stores and many times office supply stores will run remarkable sales.
