5 Non-Floral Thanksgiving Centerpieces Using Everyday Items

Pam Parent
Make stunning non-floral centerpieces for Thanksgiving using everyday items. These centerpieces take creativity not cash. The only items you may need are faux pumpkins and gourds. Many stores have these items marked down now, and they can be purchased for over half off. Another option is to borrow these items from friends. No one will ever guess that your extraordinary Thanksgiving centerpiece was created from everyday items and a lot of imagination.

Cake Plate and Pumpkin Centerpiece

For this stunning Thanksgiving centerpiece you will need a cake plate and a few mini pumpkins. If you don't have a cake plate, place a large glass bottom side up, then place a plate centered on the bottom of the glass. Place pumpkins around the bottom of the pie plate. Gather some leaves from outside. Place them on a towel to dry. Spread the leaves around the plate. Place a couple candles on the center of the plate. Place some fruit and nuts throughout and around the candles.

Rustic Board and Fruit Arrangement

Use a long board that is almost the length of your holiday table. I also have used a shelve for this dramatic Thanksgiving centerpiece. You can leave the board as is, or paint it with a dark varnish. Place the board on the center of the table. Evenly spread out candles, plants, nuts and fruit that you already have in the home down the length of the board. I also added gold painted walnuts and ribbon throughout the centerpiece for added elegance.

Wine Glasses and Candles

I have used both candles and pumpkins for this Thanksgiving centerpiece. Place a large pumpkin or a trio of candles on the center of your holiday table. I find that five or six wine glasses will beautifully frame the candles. Tie a holiday ribbon around the stem of each wine glass. Fill the glasses with leaves, fruit or berries. I love the look of gold painted nuts and berries in each wine glass. You can also fill each glass with dinner mints that the guests can enjoy after the meal.

Branches and Leaves Centerpiece

Gather some long branches and leaves from outside. Dry and clean off the leaves and branches. I love the look of the branches spray painted gold, but you can leave them natural. Arrange the branches down the center of the table. Spread leaves on and throughout the branches. Sprinkle glitter on this Thanksgiving centerpiece for added pizazz.

Pumpkins and Candles

Make a small hole that will fit a taper candle at the top of each pumpkin. Place a fall colored candle in each hole. Evenly space the pumpkins across the center of your holiday table. Place candles, fruit, berries or plants in between each pumpkin. Another fabulous look is to spray each pumpkin with clear glue, then sprinkle glitter on each one for a dramatic Thanksgiving centerpiece.

These Thanksgiving centerpieces will make an ordinary table look extraordinary. Add your creativity and your everyday items to make these arrangements your own. Another tip is to make sure to cover your table with a lace or festive tablecloth. This will be the foundation of your centerpiece design. If you don't have a tablecloth, a decorative sheet or lace curtain will work beautifully in a pinch.
