5 Part-Time Jobs Not to Pass Up

Make More Money and Find Job Satisfaction

Rissa Watkins
Money is tight in this unstable economy. You might be considering a part-time job to help pay the bills. Fast food or retail might come to mind when you think of part-time jobs. There are better choices for that second job that won't leave you smelling like french fries or with aching feet.

Work for an insurance call center in the evenings or weekends. I have worked part time for Progressive during evenings and weekends. The pay ranges from $13 to $17 per hour to start plus a ten percent shift differential for working after 6:00 PM or on weekends. Progressive also include benefits for part time employees.

I have also worked part time for USAA. Their pay was slightly higher than Progressive. USAA paid a thirty percent shift differential. Their part-time benefits were better than my husband's full-time benefits.

Not interested in Insurance? Try your cable company. Perks often include free cable, phone and internet even for part-time workers. That can save you hundreds of dollars a year, on top of your part-time salary.

Relive the memories of your childhood paper route by delivering newspapers. Gone are the days when this was a kid's job. Newspapers want responsible adults willing to work part time. You get paid based on how many houses are on your route. You work 7 days a week in the early hours of the morning. The good thing is you won't be cutting into your family time. Plus, you can get your morning cardio workout while earning some extra cash.

Do you have a favorite hobby? Work a part-time job that involves your hobby. If you are a golfer, work part time at the pro shop. You might get free or discounted golf. A friend works part time for a scrap book shop sorting paper. Instead of payment, she gets free scrap book materials to feed her addiction. The business gets a knowledgeable part-time employee. You get the discounts.

Are you a writer? Freelance writing is something you can do from home anytime of the day. AssociatedContent.com pays an upfront fee for some articles and you get paid per page view. A part-time job doesn't have to be low paying and miserable. You can find a job that pays well and makes you happy. Job satisfaction in your part-time job is possible if you choose the right one. Your part-time job might even replace your full-time job, like it did for this freelance writer.

I wish I could find another part time janitorial job to supplement my various online earnings. Minimum wage would be just heavenly right now. Oh well, at least I'm 'my own boss'!
