1. Sunflower: Sunflower's are wonderful hardy plant that are bright and sunny and just give everyone a general feel of happiness. Almost anyone who sees them smiles, so they are sure to bring your garden some extra life. Sunflowers do grow best in full sun in soil that is well drained. So keep that in mind when you select them. There is a wide variety of Sunflowers to choose from, so you can find just the right one for your garden.
2. Dahlia: Dahlia is a beautiful variety of daisies that are perennial and native to Mexico and South America. They were often gathered up by the ancient people for use in ceremonies. They need full sun, and come in a wide variety of colors. If you are very interested in gardening as a more serious hobby, Dahlia's are very common in shows.
3. Pansy: These are common and colorful flowers. They are also commonly called Pansy Violets, the great thinks about Pansies is that they are cold flowers and very hardy. They can generally survive a freeze even when they are in their blooming period. They do have several diseases that are common among them including mildew, so you will need to make sure you keep an eye on them.
4. Geranium: There are 422 species of this flower, so you're sure to find one that will fit into your garden. My favorite is Geranium × magnificum because it's a beautiful delicate looking plant, which is actually not delicate at all but very hardy. They do need sun, but because they are hardy can stand some over watering, and other issues that occasionally happen. Pick one that you like and work it right into your garden.
5. Verbena: Not sure a smell in a candle or something you put in cooking. Verbena flowers are beautiful and useful in attracting butterflies to your garden. Depending on the species of this flower that you choose it can also have herbal purposes, for teas. It's a beautiful flower that needs sunlight, and water. It most commonly blooms in purple.
