1. Sweet and Scary Fruit Kabobs
What You Need:
Raisins or prunes
1 Large orange
Cantelope, cut into 1-inch cubes
Black grapes
Bamboo skewers
Toothpicks (optional)
Directions:
1. Using a sharp small knife, cut a simple jack-o-lantern face into the outer orange peel. Carefully remove small peel pieces. Slice off a 1/4-inch layer of orange from the bottom so the orange stands upright and will not roll.
2. Cut raisins or prunes in half and trim to fit into the jack-o-lantern face for color contrast.
3. Skewer fruit, alternating grapes and cantelope cubes. Insert kabobs into orange on a platter. If you have more fruit, make smaller kabobs using toothpicks and arrange on a platter.
2. Black and Orange Hors D'Oeuvres
What You Need:
Black olives
Cheddar cheese cubes (or other orange colored firm cheese)
Toothpicks
Directions:
Place cheese cubes on tray.Stack a black olive on each cube and secure with a toothpick.
3. Orange Punch
What You Need:
2 cans of frozen orange juice concentrate
2 liters (or more) of soda water or ginger ale
Directions:
Add soda or ginger ale to orange juice concentrate until desired sweetness is reached.
4. Carrot Raisin Salad
What You Need:
16-20 oz. grated carrots
1 cup black raisins
1/2 cup Asian sesame salad dressing
1 tablespoon orange juice
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a large serving bowl until evenly mixed.
5. Black and Green Pesto Bruschetta
What You Need:
Italian or French bread loaf, sliced into 1-inch thick slices
Olive oil
Pesto sauce
Black olives, whole
Shredded Parmesan cheese, optional
Directions:
1. Toast bread slices in a 375 degree oven for 3-4 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with olive oil. Top with pesto, and Parmesan cheese shreds if desired.
2. Cut one olive per slice lengthwise into 8 sections to form curved legs. Cut other olives in half to form a body for the spiders. Place one olive half on top of pesto and add 8 olive slices to form spider legs.
3. Return bruschetta to oven for about 2 minutes or until warmed through.
