5 Reasons Avatar Will Be a Huge Hit

This Epic Movie is Set to Be the Event of the Winter, Year

Avatar, starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver is set to open in theaters on December 18 of this year. It's basic premise is that a band of humans will face off in a war against a distant planet's indigenous creatures, seems simple enough right? Not this movie. This movie has all the ingredients for a mega hit and could bring home the box office prize of the year over Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (which is truly awful if you subtract Megan Fox). Here is why Avatar is primed to crush the box office at the end of the year.

1. James Cameron - Remember him at all? He doesn't direct a lot of movies, but when he does he goes big. His last movie still holds the box office record at over $1 billion and that was twelve years ago. It was small movie by the name of Titanic if you remember it. Cameron is no stranger to big movies, he also directed Terminator 2, the best of the Terminator series. He doesn't do anything half-heartedly, he picks a project and puts his all into it. Expect big things from the biggest director in the game.

2. Hype - I haven't seen this much hype surrounding a movie since the Dark Knight. There is one brief trailer on line and I can barely even tell what's going on. Every gossip site you can think of has tried to get the new trailer out but when its finally released Thursday, all hell will break lose. I think this trailer alone will make the movie a significant amount of money on opening weekend, because if I can enjoy it and understand what's going on to some extent, I'm getting in line, and I rarely go to the movies.

3. 3D and Special Effects - The special effects in this movie have been promised to be like nothing we've ever seen before. James Cameron is the master at special effects and I don't doubt anything I've heard. This movie is also opening up in IMAX and as 3D movie. Which means even more people will go experience this movie to be engulfed by its rich aura of colors, sounds, and effects.

4. A large following - Avatar already has an enormous following and that's what you need for big movies like this. Spider-Man created so much profit at the box office because everyone knew who Spider-Man was and he already had an enormous following. This large following will propel the fans everywhere to line up again and again to see their new favorite sci-fi movie.

5. A cast ready to explode - Sure the cast has a big name, Sigourney Weaver, but the rest of the cast are small time actors that are primed to make their big break onto the A-list. Zoe Saldana won the hearts of Trekkie's everywhere when she suited up in Star Trek and she'll probably be the flavor of the month once the movie hits screens. Not too many people have heard of the lead star Sam Worthington, but then again not too many people heard of Leonardo DiCaprio before Titanic either. Giovanni Ribisi is one of my favorite actors and he'll get a career revival after this as will Michelle Rodriguez.
