There are endless reasons why you should add organic fruits and vegetables to your pantry. Here are a few.

Reasons to Buy Organics: Organic foods meet strict production standards

As you have probably heard, the term "organic" has had its meaning tweaked a few times in the past. This is good news for consumers, because it means that organic produce is regulated by government standards. Maintaining a clear definition of the term "organic" allows consumers to know exactly what they are getting - foods that are free of the toxic chemicals and pesticides commonly used in mass farming operations. Stricter labeling standards have meant that farmers can't just label their produce as organic because the follow some organic farming trends. Organic produce now meets strict standards.

Reasons to Buy Organic: Organic food production reduces health risks

Organic farming is healthy for consumers that buy organic food, but it is also good for the earth. Organic farmers use natural alternatives to pesticides, chemicals, and growth hormones. That creates organic food that is good for you and good for the earth as well. A healthy earth means healthier bodies for the rest of us. We have all heard stories of future generations finding out that land currently in use was once polluted. Farm fertilizers and pesticides have been known to leach into groundwater and adjacent land. Since organic farming is safe, it is also a method of safeguarding land for future generations.

Reasons to Buy Organic: Organic farmers work with nature, not against

Organic farmers have to find alternative methods to using pesticides and chemicals. Whether those methods include crop rotation, using natural predators, or planting crops that deter pests, they are creating an environment in which wildlife will not be harmed. Organic farming does not encroach on native plants and animals as much as modern farming does.

Reasons to Buy Organic: Organic Farms use Fewer Resources

Buy building healthy soils, and using nature as a tool in farming, organic farms often consume fewer resources to produce crops. This includes using less water in addition to not using harmful chemicals and additives. Organic farms focus on producing chemical free crops and reducing waste.

Reasons to Buy Organic: Organic Produce Tastes Great!

On one of my favorite vacations, I visited several organic farms in Oregon. There, you can pull your car up to fruit stands and taste fresh berries and other fruits. They are delicious and about as fresh as produce can be. If you don't live close enough to visit local farms, buying organic is as close as you can get to this experience. Organic fruits and vegetables are better cared for from seed to fruit, and you can taste the difference.

Organic foods are good for you, your family, the environment, and future generations. Consider adding some organic produce to your regular shopping list, or visit farms or farmer's markets in your area.
