5 Reasons Every Kitchen Should Have a Kitchen Island

Lee Andrew Henderson
One thing in my kitchen that I could never live without is the kitchen island. Whether your kitchen island is installed into the room or it is portable doesn't matter. Either way the kitchen island is valuable in a plethora of ways. If there is no kitchen island in your kitchen then I highly recommend getting one. They can be installed or you can get one that is on wheels (which is much less expensive). These are the reasons that every kitchen should have a kitchen island.

Storage
The kitchen island usually has cabinets underneath it so having a kitchen island means that there is more storage space. Anyone that works in the kitchen on a regular basis is probably always running out of room for all of their favorite dishes, appliances, utensils and so forth.

Seating
Put a few chairs or stools around the kitchen island and it makes for a good seating area. The cook of the family could sit while they work or if a neighbor stops by and wants to chat while you work away in the kitchen then the kitchen island is a great place for them to sit.

Counter Space
Another thing that the cook of the family probably runs out of is counter space. A kitchen island gives everyone another counter that can be used for chopping vegetables, rolling out dough or a number of other things. If friends are coming over to watch a football game or movie then a kitchen island is also a great place to put out food for the visitor to help themselves to.

Children
The kitchen island is a great addition for children. Children can sit at the kitchen island while one of the parents cook's dinner or if the child wants to make cookies with their mom or dad then the kitchen island is a good place to do it because the child will not be too close to the oven or stove.

Versatility
Not only is it cheaper to get a portable kitchen island that rolls on wheels but it is also very versatile. We have a rolling kitchen island at my house and when we need the kitchen island it is rolled out into the middle of the floor. When the kitchen island is not being used it is pushed off to the side and the kitchen looks more spacious.
