5 Reasons You Need a Goal Notebook

My clients are often at a loss of how to reach their goals. Some of them are even unsure of what their goals are. To help them get focused and on track, I have them create a goal or dream notebook. I have found that when people have a special place to keep their goals they are more likely to reach them. To quickly explain why everyone needs a goal/dream notebook I came up with my ' Top 5 Reasons' list. Everyone needs a dream or goal notebook to clarify, organize, inspire, and motivate them.

Your goal or dream notebook can:

1. Give you a place to clearly express your goal.
The ability to clearly state what we want is key to getting what we want. When you know what you are after, you can see every opportunity. When you can share your dream with others, they will know how they can help you.

2. Help you create a plan for reaching your goal.
When you know where you want to get to, it is easier to see which steps will lead you there. Small action steps will get you to your destination.

3. Be a place to keep track of ideas relating to your goal.
When we start thinking about our dreams, our minds can fill with wonderful ideas. Inspiration jumps at us at all times of the day and night. It is important to write down every idea. Even if you can't implement the idea right then, you certainly don't want to forget it.

4. Help you to reality check, dream uphold, and make decisions.
Being optimistic about your dream is vital, but we do live in the real world. Things will try to get in your way. Your notebook can help you plan for and avoid obstacles. At the same time it will help keep hope alive. It will be a record of how far you have come and all the challenges you have met so far. There will also be a lot of choices for you to make. When faced with a decision you can ask yourself, "Does this fit with my dream?".

5. Help you stop negative self-talk and build a positive language.
Negative self-talk is a huge problem for most people. Most of the time people don't realize how negative they are being. Once you take the time to really start listening the what you are telling yourself, you can change it. Make a list in your notebook of the most common negative things you tell yourself about your dream. Then turn each one into a positive. When ever you say or think something negative, stop yourself straight away! Replace the statement with a positive one.

Everyday people let their lives pass by without ever reaching for their dreams. It is a saddening reality. Each of them has a long laundry list of reasons why they shouldn't go after their dreams. Starting your notebook is a great way to cut down that list. It will help you get busy reaching for your dreams and living the life you want!
