First of all, let's start with the obvious. Organic food is free of all chemicals. There are no pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, fungicides, or herbicides used in organic farming. The result is a product that is as pure as can be. The health risks of chemicals are all gone when you make an organic purchase to feed your family. While many of the harmful risks are not even known yet, certain pesticides used on produce fields have been shown to increase your chance of cancer and multiple other diseases. We may never even know some of the harmful effects of these chemicals that are used in conventional farming. While you can wash off some of the residual chemicals, many of these toxins reach into the core of the produce where they will be consumed by your body. The best way to rid your body of these toxins is to purchase 100% organic food for yourself and your family!
Another great benefit of your organic purchases is the benefits the farmers receive. Organic farming is tough and requires tedious care of animals and fields to produce an excellent end result. These farmers work many long hours just to provide the consumers with an excellent product. When you make an organic purchase you can have the satisfaction of helping out these farmers who often struggle to make ends meet. Organic farmers need the profit to maintain their farms and care for their families. Many organic farms are small, family run operations. Some farms have roots that can be traced back for generations to come. Many family farms have had to give up the business due to the small profits farmers make. Your purchase of organic foods helps these family farms to continue producing excellent crops and animals for generations to come!
Organic farmers are great for the environment. Because they use no chemicals on their field, they help to protect the water supply. Conventional farming methods result in the water becoming polluted with the various chemicals that run off their fields and end up in creeks, rivers, lakes and ponds. These chemicals also contaminate the air and soil throughout the surrounding areas. Organic farmers also help to improve the soil conditions throughout their farm. The use of organic material for fertilizer improves the soil and helps to form healthy topsoil.
Animals that are raised on an organic farm are also treated much more humanely than on a conventional farm. They are fed only the highest quality organic feed and never given hormones or antibiotics. This makes their milk and meat much healthier and tastier for us. The animals are not confined, but must have free access to pasture land. Often the farmers know each animal and assure that their health is protected so that they are producing an excellent product for our purchase.
The nature of the organic produce and other products are of excellence. The produce is higher in nutrients due to the lack of chemicals used during their growth. Organic meat and dairy products are also much fresher than conventionally raised products due to the lack of chemicals used to preserve them. Try some organic products next time you are at the store, and you will be benefiting your family, the farmers and the environment all at one time! Support your area organic family farms and buy organic!
