When considering buying a refurbished iPod you should know that this means the iPod you will be getting has been used. Rumor has it that some of the refurbished iPods up for grabs have been used as sample testing items for Apple. As of right now, we don't know the real answer to that rumor but we do know that the refurbished iPod has indeed been used in some way.
5 reasons to buy a refurbished iPod
5. Refurbished iPods get their own serial number. The reason this is important is because the serial number directly relates to the warranty on the product. If you are buying a used iPod from someone who wants to get rid of it, you may not be entitled to the entire warranty. By purchasing a refurbished, not just used, iPod directly from the Apple store you are guaranteed to get your own unique refurbished iPod serial number.
4. Refurbished iPods are entitled to the same guarantee as a new one is. Apple is careful to offer this guarantee to their customers because they know that a broken iPod is still a broken iPod, regardless of how well it has been repaired. There is a chance that the iPod you receive may be broken when you get it. The Apple guarantee ensures that you will receive an identical replacement free of charge and customers have reported this process to be extremely fast. Returning the iPod to the Apple store's physical location means instant replacement.
3. A refurbished iPod has been thoroughly repaired. When an iPod is returned to Apple to be refurbished it is inspected through a variety of ways for physical damage and internal damage. Before the product is tagged as a shippable product all aspects of the media player is repaired and made as good as new.
2. Refurbished iPods have passed all hardware and software tests. This means that it may have had the hard drive updated or formatted and that it has been restored to the default factory state. The good thing about this is that any glitches that may have shown up since the release of the product are taken care of during the refurbishing process so that you won't have to apply any upgrades to it once it arrives.
1. Up to a 40% savings. Depending on where you buy your Apple certified refurbished iPod you can save as much as 40% on the cost. An 8GB refurbished iPod goes for $149.00 at the Apple store versus $249 for a brand new one. There are other places online that sell refurbished iPods where the savings is even greater.
There you have it. Those are some pretty good reasons to save your extra money for other more productive things. When you go looking for a refurbished iPod make sure that the seller clearly states the item is an Apple certified refurbished product. May you have many merry downloads and great savings with your new iPod.

Great points! I had never bought refurbished until we bought out printer. It was just as new. I thought at first we would get ripped but I was quickly relieved. We paid less than half too.
Nope... dont buy one refurbished ;)
I bought a 2nd gen ipod this way, two years ago - still going strong, and I paid half the going price!
