5 Reasons Why I'm Not a Reformed Charismatic

Jared Moore
1. Where is the gift of healing if all the gifts are alive and well? Why is no one cleaning out the hospitals while sharing the gospel? With all the media attention today, wouldn't legitimate healings, New Testament healings, make the news?

2. If God is relatively leading His church beyond the Scriptures today, why don't we pray about every single decision that we make on earth? Why do we only pray for guidance about "large" decisions? Why do we think that God has given us enough wisdom and biblical revelation to discern the difference between a "large decision" and a "small decision," but He has not given us enough wisdom and biblical revelation to make "large decisions"? I'm not saying, "Don't pray about decisions," but, I am asking why it is that we believe wisdom and the Scriptures are sufficient in only what we deem as small decisions?

3. If God is relatively leading Christians today, why is He NOT speaking to us the same way He did in the Scriptures? In the Scriptures, God always spoke through divinely inspiring prophets, apostles, or Scripture writers and through speaking audibly Himself. How come people that claim God is speaking to them today, telling them to do or not to do this or that, have no biblical examples of God speaking the same way in the Scriptures? If God is speaking to us relatively beyond the Bible, how are we to discern His voice from the Devil's voice if there is nothing concrete to base His method of speaking on? In other words, if we are not hearing the audible voice of God, then why are we claiming that He's speaking based on some relative feeling, unction, emotion, or desire?

4. If God is relatively leading Christians today, how can we argue that the Scriptures are sufficient? If God must further reveal Himself to us, then doesn't this mean that the Scriptures are not sufficient for us to faithfully live the Christian life on a day-to-day basis?

5. If the purpose of spiritual gifts is to edify the body of Christ, why is God telling individual Christians about their own lives beyond the Bible? I'm not saying that this is impossible, but at least call it what it is... it is not a New Testament spiritual gift but is rather a miracle. I just don't understand how me making a specific decision that affects only me, edifies the local church.

What do you think about this subject? I would love to hear some good arguments in favor of what Matt Chandler is arguing.
