The Saw movies ask a simple but tough question and that is "what would you do to save your own life?" This may sound simple and unoriginal but I don't believe it's been done quite so gruesomely as this. The question seems simple on the outset but try to wrap your mind around this concept. Suddenly, the simple becomes extremely complicated.
Ask yourself what would you do to save yourself? Would you cut your own foot off? Your hand? Would you rip another person's chest open to get a key to save yourself? Would you take another person's life to save your own? How far would you go to save your own life or that of another?
The Saw movies ask this tough question and shows us what some people would do in the situation shown in the movies. Would you - could you do what these characters do to save their lives?
Think of these Saw movies as being the morbid version of Fear Factor. Instead of eating or swimming with bugs, Saw deals with self-preservation, survival of the fittest.
2) These Are Gory Movies!
Oh yeah, this is what us horror fans crave! More gore, the better we say.
These movies are supposed to be gory. Life isn't always pretty and neither is death. In reality, few things are easy and clean. Sometimes you need to get your hands dirty, especially when battling villains that force you to do certain things to save your own life!
Think about what soldiers do in battle, especially in older wars, like Vietnam or the Civil War. It's either you or the enemy. That is gritty, dark, and an adrenaline rush to end all rushes. Is it beautiful or calm? Heck no! So why should the Saw movies be any different?
If you can't handle the blood, guts, torn flesh, or gore, get out of the slaughterhouse!
3) Jigsaw Is Creepy!
Who can see that giant, white Jigsaw head and not be creeped out? That puppet-like mask is a nightmare. Plus, that head on the person in the tuxedo and bicycle! Brr! It gives me nightmares. Nightmares are good in this case!
Even if you don't like the mask, you can't deny that it's very memorable. By the second movie, that Jigsaw head was recognizable to most horror fans and whoever saw the trailers or movies. It even has toys, dolls, and giant dolls of its image. It has become as recognizable as the Joker and it only took a few years! Say what you will about Saw but Jigsaw has done its job in creating a true horror icon.
4) Each Saw Sequel Gives Another Piece of the Puzzle
The villain's name is Jigsaw for a reason! This series is one big puzzle. Jigsaw puzzles are puzzles with many, many pieces. Saw gives you more clues and pieces of the puzzle with each movie. This is called keeping viewers coming back because viewers want to know!
Each movie is a puzzle in itself. The end of each movie solves a few questions from that movie, while presenting us with more questions and keeping some bigger questions unanswered. It's all about the mystery, baby! Think of it as a serial novel, like Stephen King's Green Mile, which drew negative feedback by many critics and readers.
5) Perfect for Horror Fans
Saw is a great movie series for horror fans. It has the aforementioned gore, blood, and dismembered body parts, which many horror fans crave. It has the mysteries - the unknown can be scary. It definitely has suspense, which is crucial to a good horror movie. If it pleases some fans, what is the problem?
Will it give some crazy people weird ideas that they should go and do this? Saw is no worse than any other gruesome story on the news.
Conclusion
Go out and see the latest Saw installment today!

Post a CommentI like Saw actually and also make comments on this in Premium Blogs. Actually I saw it as an eye opener kept in puzzle. Yes it is a horror movie if you look at it as it is. But it is indeed a good movie and an analogy of how life can be sometimes and it is just upto us how we play it (game). "I want to play a game"
Saw are my favourite movies.I really like them 'cuz they're really scarry.
they aren't funny unless you consider repetitive plot to be. it's depraved if it were real, like faces of death or cannibal holocaust.
Personally, I think people who enjoy watching this crap are depraved! This sick stuff is straight from hell and to talk of it as though it's some sort of comedy or play ground movie that is so highly entertaining is frankly disturbing!
Oh man, I still get comments on mine! Wanted to see if you did too, thought I'd share!!
Scary!
I loved the first Saw but disliked the 2nd. I haven't seen the 3rd. My brother said it was the best one.
Sometimes the two are indistinguishable. In Saw's case, it's both. Hostel's another story. Also horror has many sub-genres such as slasher and splatterpunk. After seeing thousands of horror movies, you can tell the many guises of horror. :P
Hate to break this to you, but there IS a difference between horror and gore... Lots of people agree with you, but I'll pass on this series!
I can't imagine seeing one of them, but nice article.
