5 Reasons Why Some Dogs Become Aggressive

Timothy Scheiman
Dogs are social animals. Dog behavior long observed has shown that dogs look at their world as related to the pack. Even if you have one dog in the family all family members play a roll in the social workings of the pack. When a dog turns aggressive it has nothing to do with the breed. What makes a dog become aggressive is environment and people. Its how the dog is raised and treated. In this article I give reasons why some dogs become aggressive.

Denied social interaction

Dogs love social interaction with humans but how many times do you see neglected dogs. Dogs tied up outdoors for days forgotten. Even if the dog has adequate shelter they are not designed to void of human contact. Some people should not be allowed to own animals if they don't love them and take care of them. My dog is spoiled but I would rather give him too much love and not enough. Never spending time with your dog is just plain cruel.

Rough or aggressive play

Dogs love to play. Games like fetch, keep away, Frisbee toss, etc dogs love to play these. It is not advisable to play games that get dogs biting. When raising a dog from a puppy when he begins to bite you should stop the game immediately and tell him no. Aggressive play should never be encouraged. Playing games like tug-of-war is not an acceptable game to play for a dog. This type of game makes him aggressive.

Mistreatment

Mistreating a dog can cause that dog to become timid or aggressive. These dogs end up destroyed eventually cause they have difficulties trusting. Dogs don't think like humans. When one human mistreats them they are not like us in thinking that not all humans are the same. It takes along time for a dog to trust and dog shelters just don't have the space to slowly develop a dogs trust. You have heard the statement there are no bad dogs only bad owners. This statement is so true. If you don't know how to take care of dog learn or don't own one.

Diet

Some owners should not be dog owners. You do not give a dog beer. Dogs can become dependent on alcohol just like humans can. You may think its funny to watch your dog walk around drunk but its cruel. Dog's need proper nutrition just like humans do. Certain foods like sugar and chocolate are not good things to give a dog and can be harmful. Just like in humans diet can affect our moods it can do the same in animals. Dogs should get dog food and treats especially made for them.

Creatures of habit

Dogs are creatures of habit. Whatever you allow them to do one time they think they can do all the time. They become confused when you give them an old shoe to play with than later they chew up your expensive Nike's. A dog need boundaries and limits that are clear to them. This is so important for their proper development. They will be happier and better pets if you train them correctly.

    @Rebeca

    your dog might be getting old. my wiener dog is getting older and when he is asleep and you try to wake him up he growls and moans (lazy dog). but once he is up he is as cheerful as can be. If he is becoming dominant than have him roll on his back. From there make him stay on his back until he stays there with out you making him stay there. After you release him pay no attention to him for roughly 2 hours.

    Good information and reminders. Our dogs are as rotten as they can be. The Jack Russell is a mess. I did an article on Bodie. Love him a lot. He's a challenge.
