1. Use your Illusion II - Guns n Roses
In spite of the success of "November Rain" featured in Use your Illusion I, the second part of the offering is much richer in the GnR style. Featuring classics like "Civil War", "Knocking on heaven's door", "Estranged" and "You could be mine" which was featured in the movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day. "Knocking on heaven's door" is a Bob Dylan classic which has been covered by GnR so tastefully that it seems to be a different song. But the best song of the album is undoubtedly "Civil war".
2. The Black Album - Metallica
This is the album which is supposed to have made Metallica metal superstars. The heavy "Enter sandman", the classic "The Unforgiven" and the best "Nothing else matters". Metallica moved away from their trademark sounds to experiment with softer tones with this album. Also this album did not feature the usual instrumental tracks in the earlier Metallica Albums. The album topped the Billboard and the UK charts.
3. Led Zeppelin Remasters - Led Zeppelin
There is no single Led Zeppelin album which can be recommended. They are all good. Remasters is a compilation of Led Zep's best songs. And what's more they have all been digitally remastered. A twin CD set and it has all the classics like "Kashmir", "Stairway to heaven" and "The song remains the same". But the one song I found missing in this set was "Going to California". Somehow a collection of Led Zep without "Going to California" seems incomplete.
4. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
This is supposedly the most lyrically explicit pink Floyd album. Roger Waters was at his best when he penned the songs for this album. "Time", "Money", "Brain Damage" are all classics. "The great gig in the sky" with the absolutely psychedelic vocals and the irony of "Eclipse" are worthy of listening. How do you choose a best song from an album which has the entire band at their best? Well, undoubtedly the best album I have ever heard.
5.1984 - Van Halen
The title signifies the year the album was released and the year signifies the year when David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen were at loggerheads. Supposedly Eddie and David never were together for the recording of this album. Synthesizers were used for the first time for "Jump". "Panama" has David at his vocal best. Also worth listening to are "Hot for Teacher" and "Drop Dead Legs".
Listen to the above and you are sure to get hooked to rock music.

I agree to a great extent. I am a huge fan of all the bands you mentioned.Nirvana,INXS,Meatloaf ....every single one o them. In fact I worship Kurt Cobain and call me crazy if you will but I can't brand his music rock....Its something else....grunge...that guy was like the God of music and you can't put gods on some list.....Not a great fan of meatloaf but yes I really liked Michael Hutchence.AC/DC.....I love too but then I had to accodmodate only 5.....and yes Appetite was raw GnR....but somehow I think civil war and estranged saw a much mature GnR...Excellent feedback tough...made me sit back and contemplate.....thanks a heap...
Pretty good list!! Personally not fans of last three, though, they are rock must haves. I'm an aussie, so i'm required by law to say "OMG, a rock list without ac/dc? :O" Metallica I must have 3. load, reload and "ride the lightning" G'n'R I much prefer "Appetite for Destruction" because of "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City" and "Sweet child o' mine" (3 of my 4 favourites) my personal 5 would be: 1: ac/dc - High Voltage (1976) 2: Nirvana - Nirvana (aka "black album") 3: Metallica - Reload 4: INXS - The Greatest Hits 5:Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell (Trilogy)
I have WAY more i'd consider "must haves" but these would be the immortals!
