2008 will close, and it's your choice whether 2008 will close with a bang or with a sleep-filled night. As the mother of eight, I went in search of family-friendly New Year's Eve events. I wondered if such a creature existed. And if so, would it be a safe fun filled evening or would it be boring? I think I have found the answer. Yes, a family can have a fun child friendly New Year's Eve in Tupelo. The safe part is entirely up to you, but the events listed below appear to be safe. So here is the list of top 5 events in Tupelo, Mississippi, for a safe and family friendly New Years Eve:

5) Woody's Steak House on Gloster Street is open at 5 p.m. and is serving delicious food that the whole family will enjoy. If the kids don't like steak, you can certainly try Kioto's (on Gloster next to Ashley Furniture). Reservations are highly recommended for both restaurants. If you want to dodge the kids and make it a quiet night, try the Tupelo Country Club seatings are 6 and 7:30 with a party to follow.

4) Fireworks in your backyard - this is definitely a North Mississippi thing, because I know that many of you will be lighting fireworks until after midnight. Remember, be safe and don't let the little ones shoot the fireworks.

3) If watching wildlife is your thing then check out the Tupelo Buffalo Park next to the airport. It will be open until 5 p.m. You can reach the park at 1-866-272-4766 or 1-866-27-BISON.

2) Malco Theater will be open and showing Madagascar Escape to Africa early in the afternoon (4 p.m.) and Marley and Me with the last movie beginning at 10:55. Malco is located on North Gloster.

1) Ballard Park on Hwy 6 will be hosting picnics and fireworks. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets.

As you prepare for New Years Eve, remember keep fireworks away from children, do not drink and drive, and be careful. Have fun everyone and happy New Years to you!

Holiday travel can already be a bit tricky due to winter time road conditions, if you mix alcohol with this you are most likely increasing your risk of getting into an accident. Please use caution and be safe this New Year's Eve. http://www.iowainjured.com/library/have-a-safe-new-years-eve.cfm
