Consideration #1: Has Giving Become an Obligation and is all of it Necessary?
Credit cards are being used heavily, which often places a burden upon people that will extend beyond the special time of year. Have a lot of people become too careless and do they really do what's sensible? This is my primary concern.
Some folks see their family and circle of friends growing and they've become accustomed to giving to all of their nieces, nephews and others. Gift giving and spending have started to spiral out of control for many. If you can really afford everything and are not giving because of obligation, fine.
I am not caught up in the gift giving scene. Although I can give gifts sincerely from my heart, my greatest gift to friends and relatives is freeing them from any obligation to give to me. I'm not into the Christmas hoopla and the Santa Claus version of the holiday. I normally limit my present giving for other occasions and events, which are far and few between at the present time, honestly. I don't give under compulsion, nor do I place a burden upon myself that I do not feel I should incur.
Consideration #2: Don't Fret or Spend a Lot of Time
After carefully making your gift giving decisions, streamline the process and become familiar with stores in your area. Find some that can really help and give you personalized attention. Look for ones that have interested and trained personnel. Then, you shouldn't have use a lot of your brain power, or spend a lot of time trying to figure things out on your own.
Consideration #3: What is the Person's Lifestyle?
Knowing this will greatly help in determining what sort of gift to buy. If the person is an outdoor type, you should be able to get a number of ideas from stores that specialize in adventure or sporting goods. If the person is interested in entertainment or electronics, you should be able to get similar advice from entire stores that specialize in these areas, or from sections within larger department stores. It helps all the more if you know the person's precise interests.
Consideration #4: Uniqueness and Usefulness
People like to receive items that no one else has. I have found that one of the fast ways to browse for unique items is to check online. Again, thought should be given to the person's personality, lifestyle and interests. While shopping online may be faster in many regards, it does require more personal use of instincts, and there won't be people standing around to help.
Dealing with major stores and other reputable sources online could provide an element of security and trust.
Consideration #5: Wrapping and Gift Presentation
Wrapping and presentation are important. It's not just the thought that counts, but the special consideration that goes along with it. Keeping the gift aligned with a theme can help to determine the type of wrapping and decorations that go along with it.
Special and distinctive packaging can add to a gift's perceived value and make it appear more expensive. It will also add a real personal touch and an element of warmth.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Please be aware of your surroundings while shopping and park in a nearby, secure area.
