5 Signs of a Bad Babysitter

Casey Gossar
First things first, your child needs to love and trust your babysitter. If you notice that your child has no connection to the babysitter after while, this may be a sign that the sitter is no good. A babysitter can not replace mommy and daddy, but there should be some signs that your child loves and trusts the her. She should play with your child and try to calm him while you are there. A good, attentive, loving sitter will be able to calm your child. If your child is totally inconsolable whenever the sitter comes around, you should investigate further. Your child may cry when the babysitter comes around simply because he knows you are leaving.

If your child has to many accidents with the sitter, this may be cause for alarm. All children will fall down and bump there head on a daily basis, but if your child is having more accidents than normal with the babysitter, you should investigate why. You babysitter needs to watch your child at all times to make sure he is not climbing on things, or getting into things he shouldn't be into. There is no need to over react if your child does have an accident while with the sitter. Children are prone to having accidents, just be on the lookout for to many, or unusual accidents.

When you leave your child with someone you expect them to follow your orders on caring for your child. If your sitter is not following orders, then your child is not being cared for the way you feel is proper. If the sitter can not follow basic care instructions, what makes you think she can care for your child. You need to get rid of a babysitter that can not follow instructions. Another thing to look for is, a sitter that argues your way of care. For example, your rule is that your child can have desert after he has eaten all his dinner, but the sitter says "Well that's not very fair". Chances are the sitter will not follow your orders and your child will have the desert whether or not he finished his dinner.

If you come home and your child is filthy, that's a sign your sitter is not taking care of your child's hygiene needs. This is especially bad when your little one is in diapers. You need to make sure that your sitter is keeping up on the hygiene of your child and cleaning up any messes around the house your child may have made. You may have went out for a few hours to get a break, you don't need to come home and clean the mess your sitter was to lazy to do.

Last, you need to trust your sitter. If you suspect your sitter is lying or stealing from you, get rid of her. You don't want someone in your home that takes things from you. If you question your sitter about something and her story just doesn't add up, ditch her. If she feels she needs to lie to you she is no good to watch your child.

I hope that these tips have helped you decided whether your sitter is good or not. I know how hard it can be to leave your child with a sitter, but now you can have some piece of mind if you are aware of the warning signs of a bad sitter.
